Hey guys, after purchasing and installing my short route fmic kit on my 2g, my overflow (which i have cocked to the side almost laying down) the hood hits the overflow and pushes the resivore into my intake and makes my coupler slide off of my turbo inlet. What can I do to relocate it? I thought about just taking a long line and zip tieing it and letting it come out behind the rear tire, but i'd get tossed from the tracks.... Any ideas would be GREATLY appreciated.

i bought a aftermarket coolant overflow bottle from advanced auto parts for like $6. i put mine where the stock uicp came through the body, where the stock intercooler was. it fits good there and cleans up the engine bay a little.

Agreed. All I did was make a bracket to support the new overflow bottle and used some self tapping screws to support it through the fenderwall. I positioned the actual cap so that it can be accessed through the UICP hole and extended the coolant line from the Tstat housing to there.

So I just go ask them for a new coolant overflow? Anything specific I ask for?

I got a greddy one for $10, and I lowered it to where the boost solonoid was, there is 2 holes there, just find the right size bolt, or use the one for the wastegate solonoid, and put it down there, that is what I did id barely misses the piping, but it clears, mine is 2.5", it can be a bi*** to pour in coolant with out a funnel, but I have one so no worries.....
..

You guys will like my simple fix :) I'll post pics up once I get hoem from work.

I put mine where my cruise control was located. Still using the stock reservoir. It was a temporary thing till I purchase a smaller reservoir but it worked out soo good I just left it like that haha

Show us your pic, might encourage me to just do the same heh

you can cut the stocker.

Where its at the top, just slice a 3" tall peice out of it, and hot glue gun.

Fits right back into the stock position!

Heh, thats pretty smart thinking right there. Hell I'm not even going to worry about it now. It holds liek a champ. It just saw 135mph and didn't move an inch ROFL

Well it looks like i have to go back to my rents and borrow their hot glue gun again. spoold have you seen any leaks? the glue holds up fine under hot conditions?

thanks guys :D

So far no leaks whatsoever, but as you can tell i also did a layer or two of heat shrink tape (like duct tape almost) for good measures.

If you want it too look AMAZING, use a plastic welder (or do a realllllyyy good job on the glue gun) and then sand down the plastic welds and paint it. I will probably be plastic welding/sanding/repainting it for looks.

Funny, all of us who bought that XS/SS autochrome FMIC seem to be always replying ont he same threads.

Anyways I put mine in the stock smic location. I used the old bracket and bent that isht in ways you wish you could do the same with some slut. So there is no way that is going to be like it was originally. It works though and doesn't look ghetto like that ghetto-raid bottle, but spoold's idea sounds better.

spoold any pics of it?

I stuck the stocker overflow tank in the pass side fender well where the SMIC was originally. Not just SS/SX FMIC W/short rout requires moving the overflow tank, SBR's Race FMIC does also.

Ill snah some more pictures tonight, but basically, choose a point where the bottle is symmetric for at least 3-4", and make two cuts. Heres a diagram i drew to kinda give you an idea.

If you have access to a plastic welder, i would highly recommend that to make for the cleanest "welds"

If you do not have access, use a heavy duty hot glue gun. Lay down one layer of hot glue on the top of the bottom piece's cut, and stick the top of the overflow ontop of it. Let it dry, then go around the edge and lay a bead.

Sand it down if you want, and use a hi temp spray paint (inside and out). This will help with keeping the hot glue sealed (it wont get malleable if hot coolant comes into the overflow tank)

Another thing to note is that you might need to use some electrical/heat tape on the mounting tab, it might not slide 100% down onto it, but mine slides about 75% onto it!
