I was wondering if this kind of overflow tank will work on our cars. System is a bit different than our stock system though.

Maybe drilling a little hole on top so It can vent if necessary?

Thank you.

From memory as i held one once the MM res has a hole in the top already to vent

I disagree with the above 2 posts. Stay away from the overflows with a little silicon straw on the sides of them. I have seen them fail a few times, and if youre not an observant driver, you could overheat from being low on coolant

You can see below the unit on the left had the silicon straw leak and discolor from heat

@chrysler kid I agree with you on that. I don't trust those tanks with the silicone straw either. Im going for a full aluminium one like the mishimoto. I just wanted to know if I could use an overflow tank with just 1 nipple on the bottom and a little vent hole on the top.

Either way If I buy a tank like the ones above I'll weld those exits shut (no straw).

I use the same one as BTKai, but mounted it on the strut tower, it’s worked great for 2 years now.

That’s why I blocked those ports off :) That “sight gauge” leaked from day one. Once sealed up properly it’s been a pretty decent little tank.

The generic Amazon/EBay overflows have been coming with extra fittings to suit your needs. I removed to Level gauge and just plugged the holes with the included fittings to prevent leaks. Mine is mounted in the factory location of my galant and works the same as a Mishimoto but way cheaper. I’ve also used the Jafro style Monster can overflow LOL

I'm curious, why not just use the original reservoir?

Is it because various mods need the space it occupied so an alternate one is required, or is it about performance? Doesn't seem like a terribly complex device, just a place to store excess coolant as it heats up in the engine jackets that the cooling system can then draw back as it cools down, with its own overflow tube in case it's filled to capacity.
