Registration Problem HELP!

I bought a 1g talon last week, the guy I bought it from is in the Navy. I actually had to go on base to have it towed out of there. The car is titled is out of state (VA). He said the title is on the way from VA DMV since he filed for a replacement title. He signed a bill of sale stating that as soon as he received it he would send it to me. You guessed it! 3 weeks later still no title The seller is being little to no help with this since he assures me he sent it.

I'm looking for a solution.

So far the only thing I can think of is to have a mechanic place a mechanic's lean on the car allowing me to take possession of the car legally from the mechanic, but I'm not sure of the possible ramifications of this. BTW I'm in California if it matters.

Any ideas?

you should beable to go to your local court house and file for a lost title tell them the situation and the sellers info and they will work with you on it. I live in ohio thats what my friend had to do in a situation where some idiot lost the title and wouldnt help my friend. I dont know if its different in cali though but its worth a shot.

I had to go through the License & Theft Bureau and get a new title that way. Either way, the seller would be at fault I believe.

Its not your local court house..Its your state dmv site..Like the capital city.It takes a couple hours depending on traffic at the dmv..But if you have the bill of sale..That is what I would do.I did it last year because I had lost my title.Otherwise you can file for a lost title through the mail, which will take about 6 weeks..

To my knowledge the seller would be at fault as well. If you would get a mechanics lean on it wouldnt that change it to a salvaged title in this situation?

My bad on the court house thing i just know thats where my friend had to go through but that may have been for other purposes for the title hell if i know .

If you have the bill of sale, and the signer is the the same person on the title, it shouldn't be that hard. Get in contact with your local dmv and they will tell you how go about it. My stepfather and I have a dealership and this guy loses titles like its his job, even new titles that we have yet to transfer.

Oooo, and btw depending on DMV traffic it can take a while to get a new title. I know here in Orlando I waited almost 3 months for one, this part of the year makes it difficult also with tax season just ending.

Called my AAA DMV. Result: "You need the VA title"

Called CA DMV Result (after 1 hour on hold): "You need the VA title"

Called VA DMV Result (after 1 hour on hold): "You are not the owner on record we can't talk to you about this car, it would be an invasion of privacy blah blah blah.. "

Physically gone to AAA DMV Result: (2 supervisors later) "You need the VA title"

Physically gone to CA DMV Result: (1 bi*** and 2 supervisors later ) "You need the VA title"

They ALL said the Bill of sale AND Vehicle Transfer and Reassignment form do ABSOLUTELY nothing!!! I asked if there was a judge I could talk to or ANYONE they chuckled ans said pfft No!

That is so shitty. I talked to one of the officers here when I had to get my title issues worked out, and they were awesome. Double check and make sure you don't have a License & Theft branch on your area DMV. That would make things easier. Then you could go in and be like "Hey, I bought this car, here's the bill of sale, dude said he would mail me the title, and he hasn't, can you help?"

Write a letter to his commnding officer. This is called theft by deception. Military takes a very dim view of this. Guarantee you'll get some results or at least your money back. Guy probab ly has a lien on the vehicle which is why the title hasn't been sent.

Or it got sent and got caught up in all this bad weather we had in the mid west/south east. If your really worried he is screwing you then contact his chain of command. You will have to start by calling the MP station on his base more than likely. If he has nothing to hide he will tell you what unit he is in. Also keep in mind that most State DMVs do things when they want. It took over 2 months to get a title from CA DMV for my car when I first purchased it.

Damn bro that sucks, ummm, try calling the VA DMV where his car was registered and where the title will be coming from.
