I was recently watching "how its made" and they were mentioning how rolls royce engines are stressed tested at redline for a few hrs...

It is possible to build an (4g63, 420a) engine that we can run @ redline for 24hrs and not worry about cranks walking or blown gaskets... Basically a billet proof engine.

Theoretically, what would it take? Where does someone start? Say at...

Stock internals, whats the highest hp/awhp capable to be able to redline for 24hrs assuming unlimited gas and what ever is considered sufficient cooling?

IMO being quite vague, I would say at minimum you would need an engine with good quality parts carefully balanced with a real good valvetrain for a start.

You also have to remember that while Bently and other high end manufacturers can build these high performance engines, they come at a pretty penny and it's not a vehicle that endures poor maintenance or has to last a few hundred thousand miles.

Are parts of that high of quality available to 4g6#s and 420s?

When money isn't a question though, can we redline for that long, and what number hp are we putting out before failure? I keep reading that with stock internals n good tuning we can do 400 or close, but is that 400whp @ redline limit?

Anything is possible with enough cash, but in my experience stock 6-bolt DSMs last the longest. 7-bolts can put out good numbers and last a very long time, but 6-bolts are just stronger in many ways. If you want to know how much HP your engine can take, if it's healthy and running strong, easily 400hp. But there are still many supporting upgrades that are needed to get there. It's not as simple as turning a knob and going faster. As for how fast can you rev? 10,000RPM is totally possible, but once again only with the right supporting mods such as valve springs, retainers, etc. Not to mention if your still running the stock T25 turbo it will start to poop out way before 10K.

But if your just curious about how far the 4g63 engine can be taken, watch this. Fastest 4G63 - 1400hp, 6 second quarter miles, over 200MPH speed traps. Unfortunately there isn't much on 24 hour engine abuse testing like in the Rolls, but IMO the real test is the multiple people running 400+ daily on the streets in their DSM.

86lbs of boost at 10k rpm. 2250lbs of torque and 1400HP. Dam, I'm slobbering on myself.

Omg... My penis shrunk watching that video.

:/

As for dds holding 400 like champs... Do you think having the engine attached to the vehicle adds much more of a stress component than an engine on a stand?
