Okay guys a stroked my motor out to a 2.4L, shortly after getting it running the head gasket blew. I sent the head to be ported and get a copper gasket on it. While this was being done he also checked out my lifters, springs, etc. There is now a knocking sound, he says its the lifters wearing in and it will go away as I break the motor in. He didn't know how to recirculate the bov he his mainly just used to decking porting etc. so I want to check with you guys in regards to this issue. help would be amazing a miss my baby:cry:

Common for lifters to tick if they haven't been pumped up and run yet. Porting the feed on the head definitely helps; mine shut up within 10 minutes after I hogged it out a fair bit. Was he more specific as to where this sound was coming from? Lifter tick and most other engine knocks are entirely different sounds.

Copper gasket? Are you referring to MLS? If so, was it just the head that was decked? Is the deck surface on the block in MLS-ready condition?

MLS needs block decked too. Ive heard great things about permatorques if the MLS is giving you trouble.

Yeah, Lifter are going to make a "tick tick tick" noise. Not a knock! If you hear a knock I would be sending the car back and demand it be fixed. Even if it were lifters within 15 mins of the car running and the oil getting up to operating temp. the tick tends to go away. The MLS's work good if you have both the head surface and the block deck surace machined. If you have not done that then dont bother wasting your money on the gasket cause it will not seal and if it does the first few times you go and hit boost it will pop. The perma-torque is a very good gasket but again thats also a mls so make sure your deck surfaces are good or you might as well be tossing your money in the trash. Good luck!!

I also always had had ticky lifters. So I swapped out the 1G lifters that have smaller than a piss hole for oiling to the 2G lifters. 2G lifters have over twice as big of oiling hole. Now I only here lifter tick on rare occasion. Like if I haven't started the car in a few days and it 15* outside like it is now. Then I get I tiny bit a tick till she's about half way warmed up.

Okay, thanks guys ill leave the car running for a bit and see if gets any better. The idle is low I cant seem to get the afpr right but Ill turn up the tps a bit and see how things go when it gets to be decent temp outside.

Alright guys I adjusted the BISS and TPS and got myself idling okay, the ticking has gotten better however I found out the copper gasket that was used to the head is not sealing properly. Do I need to find an after market gasket for my bore? I will probably just go with a fel-pro gasket if I don't need a special order for the bore.

Best thing you can do is get down pull head check lifters if you think thats it. Or get down and pull your oil pan to boot. Who setup your motor who checked the specs when assembling?

Adjust the afpr by pulling the vacuum line off and plug it with your finger. Then adjust the screw on the afpr till it is at 37psi, replace the vacuum line and you should be set.

I had my lifters springs valves and retainers all checked by a performance shop and a mechanic, but I need to know if I need a special gasket for .030 over bore. Thanks guys.
