1G Rebuild turbo or buy new kit

Hello everyone,

Currently working on a 1G Talon TSI AWD automatic. It has a blown turbo, not too sure of the damage but is not in a working condition.

What are the options for the turbo?
1.Find a rebuild kit (I have no clue how hard it is to rebuild a turbo as I am relative new to the car scene)
2. Install a new kit? (Found this one online that is a slight upgrade and a bolt on but not sure of the overall difficulty)

3. Buy a turbo from a parted out car? Haven’t found anything promising on Facebook eBay or Craigslist

Is it the stock 13g turbo? If so, there is no reason to rebuild it. A good 14b would be a nice little upgrade anyways.

You can find a good used 14b turbo on the classifieds for cheap. Im pretty sure there was a guy selling a couple of them from earlier this month/ end of November.

Yup! It’s the stock 13b that came on the automatic transmission of the 1G. Can the 14B bolt on to the exhaust and coolant system normally? Or does it take additional fab?

You will need a good list of parts to do the swap.

If I remember correctly, youll need:
14b turbo
Exhaust manifold
O2 housing
Oil feed/drain
all necessary gaskets/ crush washers
Unsure if you can reuse your coolant lines. I bet they are too small.

Basically everything turbo related of a 1g manual car you'll need.

You will need the tdo5 oil and coolant lines. I learned that after I attempted to do a td05.

@JusMX141 if you want to rebuild the turbo.

Is the turbo in good shape minutes it blowing smoke? I may take it for free and I will pay shipping.

I personally loved the auto 13g, by the time u pulled out of driveway it was allready spooling. Ive got a 13g and 16g allready in my "one day ill figure out a way to make them home decor"
