The starter finally got too problematic on our '99 4G64 so we ordered a starter through the dealer to get an oem. It wasn't inexpensive. The part came from Mitsubishi Motors, but the box is marked Remanufactured.
The part number is M178511D (not sure why the "D" is at the end). The question is whether to turn in the factory original starter in for core $, or find a rebuild kit and keep it as a spare?
We've looked for rebuild kits and the only one we've found did not have brushes in it. Are these starters brushless? If that's the case, then maybe the winding is shot in the old one and we won't be able to save it.
Appreciate any information on this dilemma.
