rebuild or JDM swap??

Hey whats up! i know theres alot of threads going around about this topic, but im just wondering what to do. Ok so i have a 7 bolt motor that has alittle over 200xxx miles :cry:
idk if i should purchase another motor(JDM) and just swap it out because of the miles or actually rebuild my old 7 bolt??? Im not looking anything crazy right now im in a really low budget so im going to have to stay with stock for now. Any ideas??? I havent done any specs on the car but im willing to invest around 3k on my motor. Im no mechanic im barely getting into the street scene so please help me out!! :thumb:
 
okay your deffinatley not gonna want to rebuild if your very begginer mechanic starting out. and as a dsm owner its kind of a unwriten rule that you as the owner do all the work your self (with the help of friends if needed) ever seen the sticker that reads "DSM, turning drivers into mechanics since 1989" its so true. id buy a red top engine from japan. its better than the 2g. much bigger head, lower compression pistons that are more forgiving on high boost, larger turbo, larger intake manni. the rebuild will cost a pretty pennie, and if you out source this to a repair shop and straight pay a mechanic to redue what you got its gonna get SO expensive. the parts to rebuild, bearings, gasket, and head bolt replacement will be alot. and thats not even mentioning if you go with new valves and pistons. you will not only pay mechanic but youll pay a machine shop man as well.200k on it. you bet your ass its gonna need a turned crank, and a fresh bore and hone. then the mechanic spends alot of time double checking all the tolerances before reassemble. remember most shop rates are like 75 bucks a hour. if it were me id spend 12-1400 on a motor only from a used jdm engine depot. this six bolt jdm redtop motor and be purchased with tranny as well. goin rate is like 1900-2100. thats not what you need tho since the tranny wont work in your 2g. its a 1g style tranny that comes on the jdm. purchase the jdm engine, they pass a compression and a leak down test before gettin pulled from car. by one from a reputable place itll usally have a one yeah warenty. the six bolt will be a upgrade because it has bigger and better everything. not to mention its likeley that youd rebuild your stock engine and then you would start having part failure. all the money to rebuild the engine and then 3 months later your 220,000 mile t25 turbo dies, more money there, 222,000 fuel injectors go bad, more money there. the six bolt will be low milage. when your ready for the 1g in a 2g swap just post a question. some one smart will give you good advice. all the info is already there but if you have any questions just ask. good luck man

most likely ill do the swap, but will the 6 bolt be a direct fit?? i read that the mounts are different?? now wiilll the FWD Tranny bolt on the new 6 bolt?? and can i still use the same ECU???

I want to do all the work and my friend keeps on telling me that he will help me out but i dont want to risk it and not finish my project, my problem are the vaccum lines and all the wiring, if i can figure that out i should be ok... what do you guys think??

At tigerjapenese.com i found a 7 bolt for $990 bucks!?!? and a 6 bolt 1500?!?!? this are probably the best prices i found so far and it a big difference for me :hmm:

The 6 bolt wont be a direct fit because of the motor mount, you have to modify it to accomodate your 1g water pump

1500 for a used 6 bolt?......thats kinda high, I seen this for 800 or even 700 as a long block

and why you want a JDM 7 bolt engine?

Over here in San Diego, CA its really really hard to find this motors or even mechanics that know about this cars.

The reason why Im lookin at JDM is because i cant find any cheaper prices..
Is a 7 bolt really that bad?? I mean i had mine for a year and it really hasnt giving me any problems the bad side is that i got the car with alot of miles(187xxx) :cry: but i think i got for a decent price $1500 :) and STOCK! no mods..

7 bolt engines are more prone to crankwalking(crankshaft play), not everyone gets it ........but if you are doing a rebuild, and want to take precautions, this would be a good time.
There have been rebuilt 7 bolt engines that get CW at 2,300 miles, and others never get it

I found you a 6 bolt longblock for 850, you can problably get it down to 800, and its like 2 hours away from you, I sent you a PM with the phone number and contact person, let me know if you got it
 
six bolt all the way. your gonna use all the sensors off of your stock engine with the exception of the cam sensor. you use your stock wire harness and ecu. it really isnt that hard to do. only major two things that arent really just "bolt on" is the driver side motor mount. youll have to remove the timing belt off of your new 6bolt. you take your stock driverside motor mount that came in the car and cut a small peice out of it to clear the corner of the water pump. once you have motor mount in hand and your lookin at your 6bolt engine with no timing belt on its self explainitory. the other thing thats a tiny bit more work than that is converting your wire harness from a crank angle sensor signal wire into a cam angle sensor signal wire. its only like cut and splice 4 wires tho. it aint to bad. when you get to that part research and youll find the instructions. oh and you trade spark plug wires 1 and 4 with 2 and 3 at the coil pack. very very simple. this swap will be your best bet and youll have left over money to build on the better 6bolt engine. once you got it done, welcome to the club man. 6boltina2g!
 
Road Race Engineering has a CAS harness that eliminates the splicing or cutting of cables,or digging around in a yunk yard.... basically just plug it
