1G Rear main seal

When installing the rear main from the engines point of view, should you be looking at the solid surface or the side with the spring in it. Also I know the oiling hole faces down but which way do the tabs on the oil plate face in towards the motor or out towards the tranny. Thanks in advance

Oil goes down how did you remove it, i mean did you look its been so long since i did mine.

I wish I knew it has been six or seven months ago that I took it all apart. Thank you for the reply.

So from what you are saying you put the oil plate in first???? All the resources I have so to put the seal in first then the plate. Please let me know thanks for the reply.

From the engine's point of view, meaning looking towards the passenger side, the order is the oil separator with oil hole at the bottom and with tabs pointing toward the engine, spring side of oil seal, solid side of oil seal, case w/ gasket.

So the oil seal solid side will seat in the case first then the oil separator will sit on the spring side of the seal on the casing. Install as one unit.
