Rear main seal problem

Searched around and couldn't find any info on this problem. I was installing my rear main seal on my 6bolt motor and the crank isn't centered in the seal. I've replaced it twice with a felpro. Tried an old housing with a Mitsu seal in it and took the oil pan back off and checked the dowl pins. I can't find a cause. Rotating assembly is in there and fine with arp hardware. Checked to make sure it wasn't in lifted on one side. I'm at a loss.

I'm to the point of removing the dowels to make it fit on there right.

Are you sure that your crankshaft isnt bent?

I had the crank ground 10 under. I looked at everything and seemed fine. I thought about it being bent but I would think it would slightly bind in rotation? I'll get a better close up pic tomorrow.

Whoa. Not good. What are your bearing clearances with it as it sits? Something looks wack. Like it might need align-bored/honed.

Is this the original crank that goes with the block?

I had it all done at the machine shop I checked it with plastigage accross and I got .0015 clearance. I never seen a problem like this .

I think I'm going to run it anyway and rebuild my 7-bolt I'm on a time crunch on moving my stuff..

Are you sure you have the right rear main housing. 6 and 7 bolt are different.

It's definatly the 6bolt housing. My buddy is the one who originally took the motor apart and then I ended up with all the stuff and put it together so I'm not 100% sure if that housing belongs to that block. He has a parts pile of three 6bolt engines.

I just installed it in the car yesterday and I'll report back on what happens. Probably gonna leak pretty good.

Installing that will be a waste of time. It's going to leak like a biatch. Not to mention there is probably something wrong with the internals or the part u have installed.

You'll be pulling it apart again soon, why no just fix it while it's easily accessible?

Because I need to move it today and get my stuff out of the garage it's located at. My grandparents aren't happy with me at the moment they are redoing part of the house and I was suppose to be done a couple months ago but time was a problem.

I'm probably going to pull it back out once I get it all home.

I would try another housing or two. Make sure the dowel pins are lined up. Something isn't right.

So I figured out the issue with this and I know ill be the clown for the day but the other half of the main bearings accross were not installed.. I installed the wrong caps I had on the bench with no bearings.

Oops.. Well that's how you know the main seal will not center
