rear main seal question

Now in the Haynes manual and even on the seal it says not to lubricate it. I already lubricated it and malleted the rear main already before I caught that notice. My question is if it is lubricated what will happen? Will a oil leak start?

If you just put a little bit you SHOULD be fine. If you soaked it you could possibly cause a leak. Is it to late to just take it back off and clean it up?

If it was a small amount, yea I'm sure its fine. But It's worth it to take it out, wipe it down, and put it back in while the tranny is off. I just had to deal with Replacing a clutch 100 miles after a fresh rebuild because of an oil leak behind the clutch. Trust me its not worth it. Buying a clutch twice and pulling a tranny twice is not worth skipping out on 20 minutes of extra work. That's my .02

No problem fellas still on the engine stand. I was just trying to comprehend why they said that. Also after I get that on and the flywheel and the valve cover you guys will witness the strongest and most durable crate engine hand built in the world for the 420a.

the seal gets installed with a special tool to keep the lip from folding in and yes the seal is put in dry so when the crank spins heat is created and it seals to the crank . with oil on the lip it would make it harder for the seal to stick to the crank . try cleaning the oil with some carb cleaner .
