So today in the morning I noticed my rear brake lights "all 3' don't turn on when I press the pedal. The lights do turn on normal Inside or outside and so do the turn signals. I swapped in a new brake light switch and still nothing, also the fuse under the hood, and Ofcourse the Bulbs .. is there anything else to check? Any ideas?. & Yes .... Iv'e Searched.

I know I already posted this on LA DSM but I thought I'd post it here too, including a bit more info on the subject as well. Do your hazards work or no?

The first thing you want to check, if your brake lights don't work, is obviously the 15A stop lamp fuse thats located in the engine bay fuse box. You don't want to just visually check it either, put a multimeter up to it and check resistance (continuity) across the blades of the fuse.
GOOD - 0 ohms
BAD - Will read the same as holding the meter leads in the air (not touching them together).

Next thing you'll want to check is the brake light switch, located on the brake pedal assembly under the dash. Crawl under the dash and unplug the connector that leads into the back of the brake light switch, then pull out your multimeter and set it to measure resistance.
GOOD - If there is NO CONTINUITY between the (A) and (B) terminals when the plunger is depressed (pedal up).
BAD - If the plunger on the brake switch is depressed and you get a 0 ohm reading.

The last thing that you can check is the turn signal/hazard flasher unit that's mounted in the center console, right side. Since there are no test procedures for this module your best bet is borrowing one from a DSM buddy or snagging one from the junkyard, considering the dealer wanted $90 for it.

If none of the above reveal whats going on with the brake lights your going to have to dig up the 2g Electrical FSM and start using the circuit diagrams to troubleshoot.

If you have already checked all those referenced by the previous poster, more then likely, it is the wiring at the taillights.

Sent from my Droid Incredible, because I can.

awesome .. thanks corey, i understand it better now. ill double check the harness on the Tails again thanks.

FIXED!. wire on the fuse box was loose and wasn't touching the Fuse itself.

have you recently installed a head unit. i wired my head unit up wrong and the thick green wire grounded out and blew the fuse after i traced the problem i figured out what caused it
