Everything looks legit aside from the tension screw. My type S has an allen key screw in the top but that could be something someone stuck in as a quick fix.

Yes they did it was sold in the JDM market and it's a pretty rare piece around here. There are plenty of good fakes out there however IMO the worst case scenario is it's a knock-off. Either way throw a NGR diaphragm in it and boost on

A couple years back I believe I read multiple places that the black top was originally sold only in Japan, but may have been sold other places in the very first production run of that BOV years ago before they switched to their signature purple top.

It does look real from the outside, but if you're worried pop it open and look at the diaphragm and valve. Most of the knockoff's valves are cheap plastic and the diaphragms are paper thin and crummy looking.

The greddy type s came in both purple and black tops. Obviously purple was more common than black.

Looks legit. A buddy just picked one of those up (purple one) and was worried about it. Check the diaphragm as well.
