Radiator Fan Q

Which one of these sensors determines when the fans turn on? I am installing a water temp gauge, and need to tap it into the thermostat housing (unless you guys can tell me a better place to put it).

It looks like the threads I have can only fit into the top one. What is the top one for? Am I ok the remove it?

The top bulky one with 2 terminals engages the fans and tells the ecu when to kick in the fans . The one pin sensor should be to display the temp on your cluster.

I'm replacing the temp gauge with a vacuum/boost gauge. This saves work, time, and my stock temp reader.

Thanks Matt, but it's going to sit in the garage for a while until I buy another Eclipse/Talon.

EDIT: I meant the gauge will sit there, not the car.

I assume this is a 2g. Yes the top 2 terminal one is used by the ECU to turn on the fans. However if you have the original fans they are turned on as shown in this table: https://www.dsmtuners.com/attachments/fan-operating-mode-2g-jpg.86862/
