i plan to take my 92 talon tsi to the track this spring and never experimented with race gas before... my motor is built and stroked to a 2.4 liter, its has 8:5:1 comp. and i have a big 16g ported and clipped on it for now, the tranny is has a shift kit, end clutch kit,a modified valve body and new lines also i have a dunrite high stall converter with 2 tranny coolers on it, just wondering if race gas is safe for my motor considering its built, also will it make a big difference thanks for your input .ps. never ran the car what kind of times u think i can push out of it at 24psi

I can tell you right now that If you try to run straight racing fuel that you better not have a catyletic converter on your car or else your religated to dilluting or just going with some octain booster. That racing gas or Aviation fuel is "leaded" fuel and will plug up that cat right now. I was gonna buy some 114 octaine from my buddy that races flat bottom V-drive drag boats and was warned about that. But there are some good fuel treatments that you can use that will make your motor run pretty nice though :thumb:

No one knows. Can you drive?

What size injectors are you using?

That turbo is a little small for a 2.4...

How the hell did you not fuel cut yourself to death??

What kind of airflow were you seeing?

Uh.. it doesn't "plug" it, but it will coat the catalyst so that it stops working. It takes several tanks to make it stop working completely, and reverting to unleaded will clean it off again in time.

There are unleaded racing gas options as well.

Pro Racing Fuels Mark5 is unleaded 114 octane and really works awesome, best part is that it's street legal. There is a dealer in Trenton, NJ. I think they can ship it but not sure how.

Racing gas in itself will not hurt your car one way or another. It will simply raise your knock threshold a lot higher and give your motor the opportunity to make a lot of HP that you could not otherwise make with a lower octane fuel. Many people run 24psi on pump gas, however you will make more power runnng race gas at the same psi than you will on pump.
