Columbus,
I was pretty set on ordering a 50 gallon drum of VP C16 for this next year's racing season. I was doing some checking around and have heard of some reputable guys and shops running Torco 118 NOS fuel and wondered if anyone here had experience with it in comparison to the tried and true C16.

Man I hate NABR's search function because it never turns up what I want. I only put in "Torco" under DSM tech archieves and got a bunch of nonrelated shit. Thanks for that link Kyle,Just lots of C-16 praises which isn't surprising. Buschur swears by the Torco 118NOS and I was also told Shep runs it. I will most likely be different and try it.

Usually how much should one pay for a 50 gallon drum of C-16? And where can I get it. All I have done is bought 5 gallons here and there, but surely would be getting more bang for the buck for a 50 gallon.

I finally broke down and ordered a 6 pack to compare to my xylene custom brewed race gas

This stuff is NOT off the shelf octane boost, its race gas concentrate

Torco is a fairly big company and they also sell 55 gallon drums of race gas, which coincidentaly is just this concentrate mixed with race gas.

32oz bottle takes 93 octane to an equivalent 104octane, i say equivalent because its not exactly rated by octane, its just does the same thing 104 would do to your car, because to make 32 oz of fluid turn that kind of octane, it would have to be like 250 octane or something

Does it work?

I was surprised, it works great. I tried 1/2 bottle with 7 gallons (1 bottle treats 10 gallons from 93 to 104) and it works well.

Before my car would spin through first gear and catch up by 6000rpm and get traction, now it instantly jumps to redline and just rides out the redline, the car just feels alot more responsive and has more topend, i was very surprised, it in fact pulls hard, on the same streets, same conditions, it just tears first gear to redline immediately and spins until i shift, this is stilll on a t25 at 15psi.

Overall i am impressed, my buddy is using it on his srt4 with a few mods and stage 1 and he is seeing a difference as well, teh car tends to sometimes do 2-3 slight fast knocks durring an acceleration run, with this stuff we couldnt get it to knock, and 2nd gear feels a bit faster, it almost broke lose in 2nd gear before, now it starts skipping a bit fighting for traction

overall, i dont know exactly how they do it or what it is, its a secret blend, but it works.

Its $12 a bottle, and i will be using 1/2 bottle for each fill up on the street just for safety purposes, it should give me about 95 octane up from my 91 octane.

Im fairly impressed, and NO this stuff is not rated the same as cheap octane boost, it doesnt advertise going up fractions of a point.

THey use this stuff to make their "race gas" they sell, which is just standard race gas, that been rated and all and proven, so im fairly confident.

Except that Octane Boost 104 ads 7 points to your fuel. That 0.7 so your 94 just became 94.7 not 101 octane.

There is the link to that stuff. It looks pretty cool acctually...

obviously, those "octane boosters" dont do shit, they are so cheezy and waste of money

"Up to 10 points" look closer and its .10 points, LOL.....wack

No, this Torco stuff is different, its not octane boost, its a race gas concentrate mix

Thats what i have, the same stuff you linked to

I think you misunderstood my post, LOL

I mean 104 as a number, NOT the brand.

Yeah I know what you were saying and I thought I made that clear. I was just posting the obvious so other who may read this now or in the future know what _WE_ are talking about. Ya know?

Have a question about Torco race gas.

Does this stuff contain lead? Does it damage o2 sensors like all the leaded race fuels normally do?

Reason I ask is that 93 oct gas hit $2.98 here today and 110 oct Torco is still only $2.75. Owner of the gas station said Torco doesnt go up in price like normal gas and shouldnt be affected by the increased gas prices from what they heard from the Torco rep.

I see some other gas stations have raise Torco but the owner of this one said thats BS because its not even on the same pricing scale as normal gas and that if people are raising that too, its just to screw people out of money.

Anyway long store short, its now offically cheaper to get 110 oct Torco here then premium.

What ill affects can this have on a car? I know the engines like it but what about the o2 sensors as I asked above?

If you have a cat and OEM O2 sensor, it will eat these up pretty quickly since these fuels are leaded. The logical way around this is to remove the cat and install a test pipe or hog out your existing unit. As far as the O2 sensor goes, MachV sells a Denso unit that will handle lead. You can find more information on it here:

http://www.machv.com/denoxsen.html

From a legal standpoint, just be careful. White residue around the exhaust and that lovely race gas smell can get you into trouble, although I suppose you could tell any law enforcement officers that you were simply running out the leftovers after a track outing.

Hope that helps,

Andy

Steve - Which Torco place are you talking about? Knoll Gas in Decatur? I didnt think they retailed the 110 for that cheap.... I'm like 99.9% sure that it is leaded, but that is not a bad price for 110 at all. I have 500 gal. drums of the Sunoco stuff here and it's costs alot more than that...... I just picked up 5 gallons of methanol yesterday at Torco/Knoll and it was much cheaper than gasoline too.

As far as using leaded gas.... It's not bad to use cccasionally like on track nights, but if you were to run it on a daily driver, you would definitely kill your O2 sensors. But if you are catless, you could either replace your sensors when they go bad, or you could try that RRE sensor....

We have access to 110 here (Citgo) and it retails for 3.25/gallon. It's not bad, but the stink and white crap all over the rear end kind of turns me off. Another option instead of using race gas is to use Torco Unleaded Accelerator Concentrate. I used this for a couple of months with definite results in terms of taking the knock counts way down. It's safe for the O2 and cat, but that downside is that it will coat your plugs brown and make them almost impossible to read. It's not exactly cheap either at $16.00/can.

Just my 2 cents,

Andy
