I am looking for a quiet exhaust and I was wondering which is the quietest 3 inch cat-back? Ive searched the threads and they said the RS*R and Apexi World Sport, but I cannot find these anywhere. IF someone can point me to a website or someone to buy it from I would be more thanb grateful and also if they cant then recommend another quiet exhaust. Thanx

Quiet exhaust....3" quiet exhaust..... I would say just find the best piping you can, then buy a HKS Carbon Ti muffler, they make very little restriction, and did not seem too loud on the cars I have heard them on. Basically, it's the muffler so you just need to figure out would has the least restrictive, yet quietest, muffler. ;)

Find yourself a good custom exhaust shop. build it with a 3" cat, at least one resonator, and the biggest oval straight thru muffler they can squeeze in there.

Or, if you are willing to sacrifice a little performance from a straight thru muffler, stick one of these in there:

all you guys saying the n1 is quite are smoking some damn good crack and you all really need to hook a brotha up. Just like bill said, you need a cat, at least one resonator and a large straight through oval muffler. On my 97 gs-t I have full 3" no cat dp to custom 3" catback. It has two resonators, and it goes into an oldschool tanabe racing medalion sport muffler(large oval canister). At idle or just cruising you can barely hear it, its great no noise unitll you get on it then it screams. I have cams too. On my 98 gs-t I have rre dp to apex n1 catback, no cat, and that thing is extremely loud. Not in an obnoxious honda ricer way but its deep, it drones, and its loud as ####! I don't care what anyone says n1's are loud, you need to remember that bass is not only heard but felt so if you are trying to go stealth status an n1 style would not be good for you.

I had a full 3" stainless RRE dp mated to a nice 3" modified Thermal catback on my old 2G. That was the best sounding exhaust I had ever heard on a DSM, though it was quite loud. My 1G sports an Apexi N1 turbo-back and it's whisper quiet in comparison. Having a turbo significantly hush's the exhaust down. Also several other people have told me that my exhaust is REALLY quiet as well, so it's not just my opinion. Oh, and I have no emissions crap on my vehicle, and the N1 system has 2 big resonators built into it.

I've got the N1 DP into the N1 cat-back. All 3" w/no cat and it's quiet. It's not like stock, but it's definitely one of the quietest exhausts I've ever had.

Im running an RRE downpipe with their 3" hf cat and the APEXi N1 cat back on my 98 gst and it's extremely quiet even without the silencer in. Im not sure how 98eclipseRS thinks these are loud? maybe running cat vs no cat makes a huge difference? All I know is Ive actually had mine dB tested and at 24" @ 4000 rpm it was only 83.XX db's at lower rpms and idle is was even quiter (this measurement was taken without the silencer). To compare my old mans 93 vette with stock exhaust made 89.XX db's @ 4000 rpm.

maybe I just have a freak car or maybe my idea of quite is way quiter than your opinoins. I will try and get a sound clip of both my cars up just for you guys to see the sound difference between the two at idle, you will then see how loud an apex n1 is compared to a quite exhaust.

i think its time for u guys to get some sound clips so we can really tell how loud they are...one person may say one thing but another persons opinion will vary

I just cut my muff off today.Threw a 40 series flowmunky on it
w/ a stainless dual tip.2.5 offset center.Just stuff I had laying
around the shop.Nice mellow tone until boosting into high RPMs.
No matter what muff you put on,it's gonna be quiet,
until you replace both resonators.
They serve their pupose well.

The quitest exhuast is the R*sr i have the older style one and it sounds stock all the time except for full throttle .

screw quiet....save your self alot of money from those exspensive "name brand" like apexi, and get yourself an ATR. Pretty lound, well in fact its the loudest muffler exhaust made for dsm's, slap a 3in cat and itll quiet down. I mean really if you decide to go 3in(which 95% of this board doesnt need) ATR is probly one of the best systems out there and one of the cheapest too.

I have the hks carbon ti on my car and love it, I like the sound (no lawn mower noises). I have 3' all the way back with no resinator or cat and mine is quiet at idle. if you get this exhaust it will bolt up right to the stock cat 2.5' but if you have 3' piping you'll have to cut and weld new piping on. ps.. the carbon ti look sweet on the car.

ATR is definitely best bang for buck. First time we started my buddies 1g w/the 3" ATR and revved it up I just thought it was one of the most obnoxious exhausts ever. However, it's sorta grown on me and now I love it. It's just got a really sweet, raw note to it. Can't beat it for the $$ either. :thumb:

Well.. I have the apex'i WS catback... and it is very quiet... Compared to an N1 or a greddy atleast... But it gets as loud as the other exhausts at around 4k or 5k :p just my 2 cents...I haven't really ever heard a quiet eclipse... unless it was on a stock muffler

i have the HKS carbon ti, and in my own opinion its the only way to go...personally its by far the best sounding exhaust i have heard on an eclipse...nice deep sound, def. not loud...i have clips of it but i dont know how to transfer them on to a computer...only negative is the price...i know that there is an identical HKS system w/out all the fancy looks, maybe the dagger??? i dont member though

I agree with 98eclipseRS on alot of things.

3" Catbacks . In order of quietness..

1. RSR
2. Thermal
3. Bosal

9. Apexi N1..

Ok I'm guessing beyond three but these are the four I have heard. The bosal is'nt bad. With high flow cat and a resonator 3" magaflow resonator... added inline should match or beat the RSR...

I run no cat and no resonator and it is still so much quiter than all the civics and assorted ricers with 5" tips its not even funny...

The ground clearance, looks and price sold me on the bosal... I'm not much on the whole huge tip theme... Im doing a cat and maybe a resonator (depending on how the cat works) just in case things get like CA around here. That and people thinking its closer stock than it is does'nt hurt.

i run a imco 3" inlet and outlet muffler with 3" catback and empty cat and it sounds stock as can be so which is very quiet. You guys probably asking whats imco well i got it from the muffler store it works quite well actually and looks like a replacment muffler if your going for that sleeper look

Simple thought. I already have bought a Apexi Downpipe. I am going with the World Sport Catback. Since the downpipe gets rid of the cat. Most likely it will be louder than normal. Isn't thise true. With JUST the catback it will be quite. With the dp and no cat....loud. Am I correct?
