Help me quiet down my exhaust

Hey guys I know its a simple post but I wanted to see what mufflers you guys are running and what you suggest to really quiet down my exhaust.

Im currently running a t3 header,hx35 12cm to a custom down pipe, then after that its pretty much straight the whole way back then 45s at the rear subframe and has a 3 inch magnaflow muffler I welded on but the muffler is probably 5 years old and has served its perpose. Do you guys think just a new muffler will do the trick and not sacrafice much flow, or any other suggestions?

Buy an apexi active tail silencer, you will hear literally nothing. I have one but don't use it much other than on the highways, which I don't even need to do anymore because I have a evo3 fifth now.

I love listening to my car, it's not quite as fun without the noise.

I don't think thats quite up my alley. Sure it will quiet the exhaust down when I want it too but I just want an over all more quiet sounding exhaust. I was thinking about just doing and off the shelf 3inch flow master or something like that and just putting a tip on it. My exhaust is home made anyways so its nothing special. Any other suggestions?

Magnaflow resonator. They make plenty of sizes. Plus if you put it where your catalytic converter is, it looks just like one and passes a visual inspection. I've got one on my DSM and Tacoma. They are straight thru design and don't impeded exhaust flow at all.

check out the srs exhaust on ebay its good stuff. its cheap good quilty built has 2 resonators and a nice muffer. i have it on my car and its not much louder the stock at an idle or cruise but really growls when you get on it. i love it because it has a nice deep note. there's a review on them here on tuners.

+1 on the magnaflow resonator, I have one on my talon and it really makes a difference. They are relatively cheap, easy to get, come in all sizes and lengths plus they are stainless steel and look great!

I checked out that system on ebay and It looks like solid stuff. Its a little bit more then I want to spend right now being that theres nothing really wrong with my piping. My muffler is just blown out but if I decided to replace it all I will probably lean that way because it is inexpensive. Im probably going to try a new muffler and if that doesnt get me where I want then I will be ordering a magnaflow resonator.

I had straight through 3 inch with a dual outlet magnaflow at the back. Added this in the middle and it helped quite a bit.

Maybe try an exhaust valve like the corvettes use? Keeps things quiet during mid throttle but WOT opens them up instantly.

Unfortunately, physics is going to hinder you. 9/10 times, quiet exhaust means one that flows less. Look at rifle suppressors. The reason why they work is because they capture and trap the hot expanding gases, allow them to cool, and slowly release them. On a turbo car, that means backpressure.

Loud exhaust is something you just have to accept when you are after making power. I gave up and just started wearing ear plugs.

I have a 3 inch downpipe going into a 2005 acura resonator and thats it. It quieted it down like crazy. I got the resonator for free from my buddies car so I tried it out. I also have an electric cutout before that so if I want the sound, I can just open it up. I also was told it spools a little faster with the cut out open too. I never did any analysis on it so I can't say %100 if that's true or not. I would go with a resonator. It will restrict less and still give you a quiet car.

cats affect resonance a lot. You would be VERY surprised how much top end flow you gain by removing it.

I'm guessing it would be negligible, if any at all. It's a 3in high flow CAT. People always say how restrictive CATs are, but they're really not, particularily modern ones.

I'd love to see some real before and after flow test or dyno numbers, I wish I could find some. I remember reading some articles in Sport Compact Car and various muscle car magazines years ago, and whenever they did CAT / no CAT comparisons on a dyno the readings never even changed.

Actually, you don't even know. It's not negligible at all. When I removed my "high flow" cat when I was on a 16g, 5th gear was completely different.

While the stock exhaust system itself is restrictive, if you have a high flow cat on an aftermarket exhaust then remove the cat it's not going to net that much HP. A few at most.

Yea, it's the typical response because it's a lot more accurate than your butt dyno.

Until you have some proof, quit spouting off useless information that has time and time again been proven wrong. Especially compared to a high flow cat.

It's not really useless information. Granted it has no evidence to back it, but I've never stated untruths on this forum.
