I'm going to be moving to the modest area soon and i hear that the police are less than kind to street racers and tend to center out cars with louder exhaust sine as many know exhaust sound tickets are based on officers discretion. I'm looking for a lower more quiet catback exhaust. Still 3in fits 1g awd and will have a hi flo cat. And ideas drop a message. Thanks

Tough call because what is quiet?! I use a big Magnaflow, #14298 I believe. 3" inlet and dual 3" outlets that has a bit of a stock apperaance. I also use a Dynomax 3" straight thru muffler in the "B" pipe for a resonator. If I had a cat it would be even quieter. Mine is not bad cruising. It's when I'm on it that it becomes louder but no tickets for noise. Sounds like you may have to learn the hard way what you can run and still meet requirements but the resonator helps without sacrificing power. Mark

Check my profile. Like Sweet97 said... it's only loud when you get on it.

by modest you mean modesto right, ehh i have full 3" with 3" cat and 3" fireball muffler, they dont even turn there heads, there kinda past that "lets bust every racer we see phase", now they kinda turning to the gangs, which them doing that is good for us all. :thumb:

I have the same setup as having the megnaflow dual 3" tips looks like stock. It sounds "LOUDER" than my N-1 muffler. I won't lie to you, i was also looking for a quiet exhaust and ended up getting this louder exhaust. Advice is: leave your stock cat there and everything is quiet. If you want straight thru 3", nothing is quiet.

My friend has a 2.5" DP, and a Thermal R&D 3" exhaust... and WOW, that thing is quiet. Maybe a little droning on the highway, but it was the quietest exhaust I've ever heard. A stock cat will make things a lot quieter, though.

Most will agree that the thermal is one of the quietest ones out there, dont forget about the apexi world sport and the greddy catbacks as well, which boast less noise at 1500 or 3000rpm ( i forget which ) than at idle. I wouldnt worry about noise unless its a personal preference, I still dont know how half of these ricers get away with thier annoying exhaust systems today.

My magnaflow may have been noisy by itself except for 2 things:
1. I got AN 18" BODY INSTEAD OF THE USUAL 14" MODEL.
2. ADDED A DYNOMAX 3" IN/OUT 18" IN THE "B" PIPE. The extra/muffler/resonator makes a big difference and does not hurt flow. Cat would help also. mark

I too have the problem of LOUD exhaust. Why did i try to fool myself into thinking that it wasnt loud before? :toobad: I have an Edelbrock 5525 muffler, a louvered core resonator, and catco high flow cat. The muffler is a dual perforated core muffler with a 3" in/out, so its not straight through. Its loud and deep, but still, my exhaust is still loud as sh!t :| I even tried to build a quiet 3". There's no way around it. Can quiet and 3" go together?

Must be the muffler. my Magnaflow is 8"x5"x18". The larger the canister the quieter it will be all things being equal. I would have even gone with a 22" but I think that would have hit the tire! The 18" took a custom shop to install. The outlets are my tips! My setup is quiet and i planned it that way. I once had just a dynomax 6" round and could not listen to the radio or another person in the car it was so loud so I made sure I got a quiet but good flowing system. mark

You can still listen to the radio and have a conversation with somebody in the car. Its not like an RX-7 with a straight through exhaust! LOL! Thats LOUD!! But, I notice when I do get out of my car after driving with the windows down, it takes a few minutes for my hearing to re-adjust to being out of the car. Its not annoying loud, but NOBODY thinks its as quiet as I try to make it out to be. One friend of mine said the first thing he noticed about my car when I let him hear it was how loud it was. Didnt say it was a "bad" loud, but it'll get people's attention at a stop light, and of course, the innocent by-standers. :D
