Quick Oil Pressure Sender Question

I wanted to know if I am hooking up my Autometer Mechanical Oil Pressure gauge, can I just remove the Stock oil pressure sender and put the oil pressure tap in there? Or does the cars computer need to have the signal from the sender to run porperly?
