Car has been doing this only once in a while, but I'm hoping someone can help me here. Every so often, when you're cruising along at highway speeds, and you pull her down into 4th to get on it, put the gas pedal to the floor, it acts like it is going to accelerate for a second, and then for a split second, the car will jerk like it's "cutting out", or maybe even a backfire, but there's not a loud bang, and then it accelerates just fine. It doesn't do it every time, only once in a while. Car is a 95 Tsi. Any help would be great.
Thanks

I thought fuel cut too, does it do in when you pull on it in any other gear? and if it was fuel cut wouldnt it be doing it more then once in a while,When I was hitting fuel cut,any time I tried pulling on it Id check to make sure I didnt hit a deer.

It has newer plugs and new wires, less than 10,000 miles. It has done it in 5th too, but only once.

Maybe its the colder air, did it do it when it was warmer outside?

You know, I don't think it did. It didn't do it last winter though. I forgot to add the car is mostly stock, 8mm plug wires, full exhaust, hard IC piping, K&N FIPK, and Greddy type S BOV.

What brand plugs do you have? I also had the same problem. It was my plugs they were new also. But cheap plugs are no better than old plugs. ngk 7es they worked for me.

MN FTW, unfortunatly you are still far away from me. I have no DSM friends

Anyway. Take out a plug and see how its burning. If they are white your buring too hot. That can cause some stuttering problems.

It COULD be fuel cut still. I started getting fuel cut pretty early because I had an old fuel pump. I replaced and re-wired and it works like a charm. try just re-wiring, its not too difficult, and its good to do anyway.

does it do it as soon as you slam the gas wide open, then pick up a few seconds later and go? sounds like it may be lean gasping...as tio what would cause it there could be many things but a few places to start if that's how it's acting would be fuel filter, maybe re-wire the pump for more voltage...

or air that's not being metered by teh MAF due to an open BOV.. is yours recirculated?

Check out vfaq on how to make boost leak tester yourself:
http://www.vfaq.com/index-main.html

Once you do make one here is how you conduct the test:
1.Take of intake pipe that connects to the turbo inlet.
2. Connect the tester to the turbo inlet
3. Spray soapy water on all intercooler piping and all the connections between them. Also spray throttle body, BISS screw and the around the fuel injectors.
4. Pump air into the tester using an air compressor and listen and see for leaks.

Now your profile is not filled out so I don't know whether you have an aftermarket boost gauge or not. If you do great, pump up to 15 psi and see if it holds pressure and for how long. If you don't I suggest getting one.

Also, is your BOV recirvulated back into the intake?

Now, I also experienced the same problem. It use to happen in only second gear when I went WOT, not always though. It was fuel cut and fixed it up with tunning. So don't count out the possibility of the problem being fuel cut.

Cheers
Osman

I have the same exact car with a very similar problem. It only happens when I take an extreme turn (like an on-ramp) at full throttle. I can now replicate it at will and is in fact fuel cut. My other Talon did the same exact thing. I am pretty sure a rewire and filter change would take care of it. As long as I was in the turn I could step on and off the gas several times and there was nothing. Once I straightened out it was fine. This happenens with a full tank as well.
The only other time it happened was when I was running extremely low on gas and it happened going down the highway and tried to accelerate.
Was your tank less than 1/4 full?

If it runs 100% the rest of the time, I wouldn't think it was boost leak or tune.

(P.S. by extreme turn I mean that I race my stock car at a local short track every friday night kind of turn..)

For that massive tune, I'd stay with BPR6ES plugs.

ROFL. Ah, you beat me to it.

Yeah, many people have the misconception that you should put 7ES spark plugs as soon as you get the car. That is wrong. You won't need the 7ES until you get above 15-16 psi and at that point you will need a fuel pump to support that extra boost and the plugs to blow it up. Here is a GOOD read for spark plugs. FAQ!!!

Back on topic. You are hitting fuel cut because you have a boost leak. Do a boost leak test and you'll see.

it's not actually fuel cut, it's fuel starvation from a bad tank /pump location design

This is because our tanks are poorly baffled ( actually not baffled at all) AND the fuel pump is located on teh right side of teh tank so making right turns all teh fuel sloshes to the left and the pumpo can;t pick any up.. you can either build baffles in the tank ( moderate skill and welding required ) or order some fuel cell foam from "fuelsafe" and stuff your tank full of it to help with that ....... when i road race and autocross i have to keep my trank FULL or else i get this as well.. next tiem you're out replicate it and you'll notice it should only do it on right hand turns, lefts put the fuel nearer the pump...maybe there was some redneck NASCAR thinking in the design of our cars :LOL

I would like to throw my .02$ into the plug coment we swap out more plugs on customers cars then anything else for a wide range of driving issues. Any thing from hesitation to bad fuel mileage ect ect. It amazes me how many people use the snake oil plugs at $12- 16 dollars each when a simple $2 plug works wonders.
Now on with the problem at hand sounds as if he may be blowing out spark ie. plugs and wires he says 8mm but whose Pep boys special or a quality wire such as magnecores?

My money is on plugs and wires
