Greetings dsm community!
Im new to the forum. (obviously)
I dont actually drive a dsm car. I own a 99 mustang v6.

My questions are regarding that.
See, I have scoured the internet looking for answers but I cant find what I need, and I was hoping you guys could help a fellow gear head out.

Heres my situation.
Im building a remote mounted turbocharger setup for my mustang.
Nothing huge, I just wanted to be the first on my mustang forum to build a remote mounted system. HP goals are ~270-~310 to the wheels on 5-7psi.

I originally tried to fit a single garrett 63mm turbo under the car, and yea that isnt gonna happen.
So, I realized that Im going to need to go with a pair of turbos in order to get turbos small enough to fit under the car.

I have a buddy who drives an eclipse, and he said the stock T-25 turbos are only like 4 inches wide (facing the compressor inlet) so they shouldnt hit the ground. Compared to the 9.5 inch width of the Garrett I was trying to use, I should have a lot easier time with t-25's.

So, my questions are...
Can you guys please tell me the dimensions of the turbo?
Is there anything specific I need to know when looking for some used t-25's? Different models or anything?

Or any other feedback is welcome.
Thanks guys -Tim

Turbo Comparison

They aren't worth paying much for. You can probably get two for less than $300.
Different models or anything?
Nope. If it's a T25 and off of a 95+ DSM, they're all the same.

its not more than 5 inches. but they have a longer compressor so the position may be a issue. i have 2 blown t25s so if u need specific sizes i can get them for u just pm me questions.
PM sent

edit:For some reason my PM didnt send I guess. It doesnt say so in the sent folder.

Anywho, what do you mean by the compressor is longer?

I just need to know for sure that the turbo isnt going to sit too low under my car. That 9.5inch wide turbo I put up a picture of sat like 4 inches below the frame! :toobad:

Oh yea, also...the t-25 is clock-able, isnt it?
Id hate to get them and find out I cant orientate it the way I need to.

Yes but didn't Nissan use a t25 on one of there cars also.

have you taken a look at STS turbos

STS

Yes, but STS is rediculous on their pricing. They also havent actually made a kit for the pre 05 v6's yet. At least accoring to one of their representatives I was emailing with.

I can do my own welding, and all the other labor. I just need to pay for parts.

By the way, this is a <$2000 dollar build. :hellyeah:

lucid15, did you get my PM either?

if your gonna use a dsm turbo. you might as well use two 14bs off the 1g dsm.

Well, they gotta be small. Im fitting turbos where mufflers should be.
Besides, my power goals arent high. Ill hit what I want with around 7 psi.

I measured the compressor housing on a t-25 I have sitting around. Its about 5 1/4" across like the red line in the pictured you posted. Theres only one problem with using a t-25 or 14b like you're wanting to use it though. The oil returns on those turbos are gravity fed. So they need to be above the oil pan with no sharp bends in the return lines for the oil to drain back to the pan. So mounting the turbos toward the rear of the car is going to be a challenge without some way to get the oil drained from the turbos and back to the oil pan.

Ive got a Tilton 2gph 12v oil pump to handle oil return. Ill figure it out.

And thanks for the measurement!

No problem. And the compressor housing is clockable on the t-25. So that should help with fitment too, since the compressor outlet has that 90* bend. Looks like you've got all of it figured out already LOL. Sounds like a pretty awesome project man. Good luck. Maybe post some pics for us while you put it together?

Sure no problem. Once I start the build process I was going to make a build thread documenting it on my mustang forum. I havent checked yet but is there a place to post it here too? I could do that..

Also, thanks for the info on the clockability of the compressor housing.
What about the turbine housing? I would have to change its orientation as well to make the oil drain on the bottom Im sure..
14b compressor covers are smaller
Ah, thank you for the information. Are they smaller all around? Are 14b's stock on mitsus? Sorry, I dont really know alot of DSM trivia.

Sorry, yes the turbine housing is clockable too. The t-25 uses 4 bolts and these C-shaped brackets to hold the turbine housing on. Also yes the 14b compressor housing is smaller at barely 5" (have one of those sitting around too). The 14b compressor and turbine housings are clockable as well. The turbine housing on the 14b is held on by a v-band looking clamp, so it would probably be easier to orient how you need it. And yes to 14b flows more air but spools slightly slower than the t25. I guess its all in what you think would better suit your setup. The 14b also has a shorter compressor outlet than the t-25 so that might fit in a tighter space better. Some comparison pictures...

Thank you.
Man, this forum is awesome. I already have most of the information I need at the moment.

So, anyone selling their t-25 or 14b turbos?
If so, let me know.
But, for some reason when I send a PM here it doesnt show in my sent box so i assume it didnt send. :hmm:

I thought the same thing, the private messages do send though.

i would highly recomend the 14b over the t-25.....alot of people upgrade there t-25 to the 14b or 16g......it may spool a little slower but on a high compression mustang it would be very un-noticable and it will hold better in higher rpms....a single 14b is very capably of 300hp...so 2 of them at around 10psi would be a monster and have lots of room to grow if you ever wanted to tune it on a higher psi and race gas.... t-25 flows 330cfm... 14B flows 430cfm.... do the math....... plus the 14b has a slightly smaller compessor housing for easier fitment for that mustang.....i think your decision should be simple after this post......14b= smaller housing and flows more.... no brainer:thumb: and yes it is a stock turbo from a 90-94 dsm

Those turbos show up in the classifieds often:

As far as saving sent pm's, you have to check the box which is located under the message entry window, just scroll down and you'll see it under "Additional Options".

The 13g comes with 1g automatics. the 14b comes with 1g manuals. 2g has the t25, auto and manual. The 13g flows as well or better than the t25. The 14v has td05h on the compressor cover. The 13g is smaller still in the compressor cover and turbine housing and has td04 or td04h on the compressor cover.

-14b flows 34lb/min (much more than 430cfm ;) ): two would give you as much flow as the biggest hx40 :thumb: . You can upgrade to the 16g turbine housing when you really want to push the setup to the limits. They sell for $50-75 each used.

-The t25 and 13g both flow 27ish lb/min. A pair would be fine for up to about 450whp for sure depeding on your compression and pumping losses (good flowing setup, good cam) maybe a quite a bit more.

Thank you reno23 I dont know why I couldnt find the classifieds. I looked, just didnt see them.

All very good information.
I calulated that naturally aspirated my engine uses 25.5 lb/min of air at 5000rpm assuming 100% volumetric efficiency. So its probably more like 20lb/min.
So, I'm sure the combined output of two of any of these turbos you guys reccommend will be plenty of air flow.

Thanks again guys this place is a gold mine of knowledge. :thumb:

I just measured my backup 14b sitting here in my living room (i run a 16g on the Eclipse); with the exhaust housing and waist-gate actuator taken into account, the shortest distance clearance wise is about 6 inches - 6.5 inches to play it safe.

Do you plan on rebuilding these turbos when you get them, or running them as is?

Rebuilding.. should be fun, its my first time rebuilding turbos. I should be alright, im actually an ASE certified tech so im pretty sure ill be fine.

He'll likely need external gating since he wants to run under 6psi boost for the pair. . .

Yea, I have an external gate. Ill just remove and block off the IWGs.

hondaslayer1, reply to my PMs please. This is getting suspicious.
