How would that work out. If I fit a 2g head ON 2.3l Stroker bottom end? With the 2.3 I should get more bottom end torque and with the 2g head it would even increase spool up? Using a medium sized turbo for streetability. Would that work out in my favor? Has it ever been done?

Nope it has never been done before you will be the first :D

Do some more searching a 2.3 is a 6 or a 7 bolt 2.0 block with a 2.4 6 or 7 bolt crank.

A buddy of mine did that due to his 7 bolt cw. He used his 2g head because it was readly available with HKS cams/gears and valve train. He was running a T67 so Im not sure it would compare to the size turbo you would use. His car was nasty for about 2,000 miles when the clearance wasnt right and the oil squirter was hit and bent causing it to kill the crank and all:toobad:. I only rode in it once over a year ago and the torque was ok on a mild tune and the power band was pretty good...he also shifted at 8k.

The 1g head flows better, there is a thread on the flow charts some where. Though a 6/7 bolt head is used on the 2.0/2.1/2.2/2.3/2.4 motors.

Just depends on what your setup is and your goals.

The link that I posted says nothing (hard facts) about the 1G flowing better than the 2G

I cannot find the specs anyone else have anything?

The *UNPORTED* 1G versus 2G versions the 1G definately flows better. But not by a whole lot. You loose a good deal of velocity. The ported versions the 2G outflowed the 1G by a fair amount. This information came from BJ back a few years ago when I was talking with him on the phone.

Where are the hard #'s to support the 1G out flowing the 2G ported or not.

I would suggest you go talk with a man that is no longer in business. His name is BJ. I run a ported 2G Stage IV head of his and have for many, many years. The question though is which head flows more. The answer is the 2G head flows more. The 2G head has a greater velocity to in and a better angle of approach. The 1G has larger runners initially but there isn't anything you can do with it that you can't eventually do better with a 2G head.

I have a very slightly ported 2g head with BC 272 cams and a venom sheetmetal intake. I hit 45lbs/min at 23psi with an off the shelf TD06 20g. I stopped questioning the flow of the head once I saw it in my own logs. Its probably more the stock 2g t-body and intake manifold that is the largest restriction. Even with a 1g t-body and pre SMIM, my airflow would begin to flat-line right around 6000rpm. Now it just keeps going up and up.

I run a 2g head and am very happy

when I started my build I was going to jump on the 1g head bandwagon and I am so glad my builder talked me out of it..

the example I use is Kiggly he runs a 2g head (last I checked) quickest & fastest FWD there is.

Its one of those debates that will continue till the end of time...

Great replies everyone I just wanted to put to bed finally the 1G vs 2G head which is better and stop this :beatentodeath:.

Thanks guys Now I can tell my friend with a mustang who ports the shit out of everything that it doesnt always give you more power. Velocity is the key not volume. Starting a 2.3 w/ a 2g head build.

When it comes to advice for DSM heads Kevin (kiggly) is a weath of information. Other than the fact that he's crazy smart, he's done his homework. You can't go wrong listening to him, or emulating what he's doing.

A good way to prove your friend's incorrect assumptions would be to bring up the point of a NASCAR engine's head ports. They're actually small, by traditional standards (for a v-8), yet they flow A LOT, and velocity is very high. If bigger was always better, then they would have much larger ports, but they maintain their high flow rates with small ports.
