Hey guys I have a question about the oil lines for a h1e. I recently bought a brand new h1e with the bolt on housing and I was wondering what I would need as far as lines to supply oil. I have a garret gt40 on my car and I was wondering if I could use the same oil lines? I have balance shafts removed and run 20w 50 oil. Thanks for any help or advice you have.

These Holsets are so freaking bullet-proof, theyre not picky at all. I'm not sure oin the threads on your feed line if it will work, but I know that it takes a garret style oil return. As for where to get the oil from, you will need to get a restrictor if your going from the oil filter housing to be in specs of what Holset says. Although, my friend did the BSE and took the oil from his oil filter housing wityh his holset and hasn't have problems for two years.

Feed from the head or feed from the OFH witha .062" restrictor; since you have no b-shafts.

The return line will bolt onto the h1e as is. You can go to your local harwarestore and likely find a series of adapters to get the feed line onto your turbo.

On the h1e I have, it has an inverted flare for the oil feed line. I found fittings that would work at a local shop that makes various types of lines and hoses for vehicles.

You can find it right here, depends, where you want it fed from.

EXTREME PSI : Your #1 Source for In Stock Performance Parts - Oil Feedline Kit (Head Location): Mitsubishi Eclipse 90-99
They also have another one from OFH. No one makes restrictors for these fittings. Either you have to make your own, or nothing. I bought the very same kit and the good part of it, that the fitting is steel, so you could weld it shut an then drill a hole of 0.062 as Matt suggested. Cause I had problems with this particular fitting, I use EARL's alum fitting. I noticed, that the one from Extreme PSI is much smaller on the inside, than the Earl's one. Make sure, that you get a CRUSH washer for the steel fitting, even doesn't come with one. The size of the fitting is12mmx1.5, to -4AN. So obiously the crush washer is needed for the 12mm. They have it. Before you order, make sure, that the thread for the oil feed is the same size - 12mmx1.5 pitch. There are a various CHRA's with different thread sizes. Check that. Do not use a restrictor, when feeding the turbo from the head...

I bought an oil feed fitting for a garrett turbo then retapped it to the stock banjo bolt threads then just bent the factory oil line from the head to were I wanted it. Works great.

Here a picture of it.

I have a HX40 with a 1/8" NPT threaded inlet, a HX40 with a 1/4" NPT threaded inlet, and a new 7-blade HX40 (mine) that uses the 12mm x 1.75 banjo bolt fitting.

All of the flanges look the same as the one in the pic posted by J-speed99.... however only one of the three (the 1/8" NPT center housing) is drilled to accept the Garrett-style inlet flange he's using in that photo. The rest are solid, like this:

Thanks guys looks like I have some homework ahead of me to get this just right. I have no balance shafts so Im ###### going to need some kind of restrictor. Too bad I am not terribly handy with tools so I'm going to have to check who can "create" one for me.

Hey guys here are some pics of the turbo that just came in. It already has the bolt on housing on it. Let me know what you think and also does this look like an h1e, the one that is comparable to the hx40? The assembly number is 3530769 and the serial number is 063187 but the model stamp on the holset is empty. Can some one find out if this is truly an h1e? Thanks for all your help and wish me luck on the build.

Pull the housings and measure the major and minor diameters of the wheels. . . Post them up. We'll be able to give you an exact answer as soon as you do. The measurements don't have to be exact. But a dial caliper would be ideal.

This is simple.

Pick up a restrictor for a Garrett ball-bearing turbo (which is .030") and using a tiny drill bit you can either size it to 1/16" (.063") or 5/64" (.078"). This is exactly what I chose to do with the HX35 pictured in post #11. This allows you to choose how much restriction you want....but I'd say the .063" is fine for a balance shaft-less engine fed from the filter housing.

For what it's worth, I'm planning on running my HX40 unrestricted from the head.

Ok will do. Thanks for your help guys can't wait to slap this bad boy on and post in the Holset result thread LOL.

mine didn't have the holes in it either so I drilled and tapped it for the flange.
