I am looking for a set of replacement struts and springs for my wifes 95 AWD tsi. My problem is that I am looking for a stock type replacement and not a lowering one. I seem to only be able to find performance oriented type struts and springs. Does anyone know what brand or type of struts and springs I should be looking for? Any help is much appreciated. I did attempt to search but could only find info on performance oriented items.

you can get stock replacements being of stock height from rock-auto.com, also check your local parts dealer advance auto etc. u can get kyb replacements, which are our stocks anyway, also springs are avaliable. i got mine from advance. have worked so far now i wish to lower her.

Why are you replacing the springs? Are they damaged? I would just throw some kyb gr2's on there and call it a day. They are pretty cheap thru rockauto.com.

I've always assumed that you should replace the springs when you replace the struts, is this not normal? I have never done any suspension work before.

I did not get the PM. I think it is kind of funny that I am a probationary member but have been on here since 2003. I guess I am just a long time lurker. I am interested in like new struts and springs. My email address is nickxf250 at gmail dot com.

You dont necessarily have to replace the springs if u replace the struts but if you feel like doing it theres nothing wrong with that its prevantative maintenance you will avoid in the future and save money further down the road. But yes if you are just looking for stock performance you can go with pretty any off the shelf product in your local auto parts store and when you go in they can let you know which options you have, some may have several brands/quality.

Yup, as long as there's no real cause for concern on the springs.... (like cracks, or breaks, or sagging) then you could just replace the struts and call it a day.

I've never really seen a bad set of OE springs on these cars... now if you owned an older ford taurus or escort; then you'd be replacing them. Those cars were notorious for broken coil springs.

I am getting ready to buy a 97 gst for a parts car. I am only buying for the interior and hood but was wondering if the front struts and springs will work on the awd tsi. I hate to make another thread but will the power steering pumps interchange as well.

I am doing my struts and springs right now. KYB from rockauto.com and springs from Jacks Transmissions. I recommend checking or getting the bolt for mounting the brake line to the strut. Mine came with the nut for the top only. Then I broke the bolt to mount the brake lines and had to stop.

Also Springs don't go bad until they break 99% of the time and when they do go they can rip your tire up. Changed mine becuase its cheaper then the new tire I put on.:thumb:

The front springs and struts should work on your car, the awd have a stiffer rear spring due to the weight difference.

Buzz! Nope. In 95 & 96 (which are the years when 2Gs had different springrates for AWDs vs FWDs), the AWDs had softer rear springs than the FWDs, even though the rear of an AWD weighs more than a FWD.
