Question about loggers

Hallo everyone.

Heres the deal. I searched around both on this forum and online through google, and have been trying to figure out if there is anything available so I can just hook up my old crappy laptop directly to the car. I found some ALDL cables that go from car to Laptop, but is it the correct thing I need? I haven't found much software online for just the laptop, they all talk about Palm. Is it necessary to go the palm pilot way? Most of the information I've found says that the palm pilot is the easiest/best solution, but I already have a old laptop

you need a logger cable that plugs directly into your diagnostic port and the other part hooks up to your palm. or get a serial cable that plugs into the logger cable and you can choose to run your laptop or palm like this
