Langley,
A few months ago I bought a Hedman header and since then the gasket between the header and downpipe blows out every month or so. I have tried replacing it, doubling the gaskets, and a combination of gasket and hig-temp gasket maker. Nothing has worked so far.

Now, I'm thinking of getting a small sheet of 1/16" or 1/8" aluminum and cutting out the pattern and using that as a gasket. Does anyone think that would work and if so the aluminum would stand up to the temperature right?

"blows out?" are you NOT using a metal layered gasket? i dont even want to know what material it is...

you can go to autozone and ask if you can go in the back and take a look at their gaskets.. i just took the diameter of my pipe and bolt hole measurements and found the correct gasket. or atleast one that fits.. and it is layers with a rim...

right now I'm using Mr. Gasket gasket making material, supposedly it is high-temp but it hasn't lasted more than two months. The first one I had was a multi layer from Hedman but that one blew-out and fell apart when I took it out.
I was thinking of aluminum because it should seal any gaps and it won't break down under heat.

exhaust flanges are bent and you will continue to have that problem with a cheap product.the flange metal is not thick enough...common problem with headers.

the flange is about 1/2" thick steel so I don't know how much thicker it should be. I'm pretty sure Hedman is supposed to be a good company with quality products. Anyways, thanks for the help. :thumb:
