Header and Downpipe Gasket???

This site may earn a commission from merchant affiliate links, including eBay, Amazon, and others.

It depends on how they look. You can pick up the gaskets for a few dollars at Napa or take a chance on having to take your headers back off and replacing the gaskets anyways. I would go ahead and get the gaskets if readily available but as long as you don't have an exhaust leak, it doesn't really matter.

On my RS, I replace the downpipe gasket since it was disintegrating, but for the header, It seemed pretty durable and much thicker than the flange gaskets, so I just used some scotchbrite to clean it up, then wiped it down with alcohol. Looks good as new. But do NOT re-use the exhaust manifold bolts. Replace those. I sheared off 2 of them when installing the new header.

i would go with do it once do it right and just pay the money for the new gaskets so you dont have to do again a week later. less downtime more playtime
