Just some insight for anyone considering a quaiffe LSD for their FWD eclipse. I know i was skeptical about the gains when first considering one after i saw the price f the unit. Well I recently blew my stock trans and the fastest replacement was to order a TRE unit, and i figured while I'm having it built I'll ask if he has a quaiffe. He did, and so i took the chance while having the tranny built to spend a good 1300 bucks on the diff alone, but I'll say one thing..worth every penny!!!!!
At first you barely notice it's there when driving normal, but once you start to beat on the tranny as it breaks in, this diff just shines through more and more with every shift, launch and lane change. Normally my car would spin one tire anytime i got on it hard under 90MPH through the first 3 gears. Now that both tires are locked under power it just grips and goes. At first it made the car "feel slower" because it wasn't getting crazy with torque steer and tire spin, but after officially launching the car a few times over the last few days, the difference is just plain amazing. I'll spin a little on the launch and then it grips and goes, sometimes it spins through the top of first pretty hard but as soon as i grab second gear the car is almost comparable to the acceleration of a decently built AWD. I'm probably doing better launches now on a set of "large" street tires (225/55/16 = kinda meaty)With both of them hooking up I'm probably pulling as hard or harder than i did on slicks with the pegleg stock diff. Normally it would spin one slick all through 2nd and hook in third, now I've got traction as soon as i hit second gear
Moral of the story, if you can get a quaiffe for your FWD, BUY IT!! I was so sick of my FWD and hating the way it spun so much that i was disgusted to have to buy the tranny and diff to get it back on the road. But after driving it, i don't regret a bit of the 3k dollars it took to get me going again. I have to bite my lip when seeing the credit card bill though
The diff alone helped cornering so much it's insane, before it would under-steer and spin one wheel under acceleration out of a turn, but now it grips and goes whatever direction i point it in(but it still feels like a 2g pig on turn in though).
