I recently removed the head off my car. I took it to a shop to have them test it, and found out it warped beyond repair. They would have to shave of too much metal to flatten, thus messing with the timing. So, I ordered a new, fully loaded head.

When I took the head off, I marked the belts and sprockets (at TDC) so that I could realign perfectly when putting the head back on. But my problem is that the head is different. I found TDC by putting a screw driving down the cylinder and cranking until everything lined up and the screw driver was highest.

I guess my question is, how can I make sure the head is at TDC? It needs to be, right?

Ok  All you need to do is put the #1 piston as high as it will go and have the timing mark on the crank/ belt seperator line up with the mark on the front cover. When installing the cams make sure the dowels are both at 12:00 with the timing marks lined up and the correct cam gear on the cams. It will take you a coupple of times to get all the marks lined up when putting the belt back on but be patient. Turn the engine over with a !/2 rachet not the starter.

Alright.

Piston #1 is at the highest point right now. All the other timing marks are also lined up.

So basically, when I get the head in, I'll just have to make sure the two sprockets on the head are at 12 oclock and line up in the center.

I didn't word this in question form, but it is one. I'm looking for confirmation that this is correct.

yes that is right and also make sure that the marks on your crank are lined up also..
