punishment racing 1g downpipe

Most are 2.5" where they connect to the O2 housing cause most aftermarket O2 housings are 2.5". Ive never seen a DP that has a 3" inlet at the 2 bolt flange- I believe this is because you wouldnt be able to get the bolts on and this is why they make the "O2 eliminator" DP...

I believe that the older PR downpipe was 3" all the way to the o2 with two notches in order to allow for the two bolts. I bought one for my 1g fwd and it is like that, but I' rather have the one that tapers out from 2.5" (which I bought eventually).

Shouldn't matter. Most O2 housing outlets are 2.5" or less. a full 3" would only serve to cause turbulence, or pain while installing the downpipe bolts to o2 housing. also the ebay ones are a hair under $75 shipped to your door. I dont usually advocate chinese cheap crap but these downpipes are great for the money.

Does anyone know if the punishment racing downpipe will fit using a evo 3 o2 housing, i know the Megan racing dp hits the t-case. I just don't want my dp rubbing all time.

I realize that you are talking about 1G's, but I have a PR full 3" DP and it wouldn't fit on my 2G O2 housing. There just wasn't enough room for the nuts and the flange was huge. I ended up cutting up a 2.5" to 3" adapter that came with my catback and cutting the flange off the down pipe and welded on the adapter to make the DP work. Sounds like Punishment Racing saved you a lot of grief!

It seems like a quality part though and has held up to salt nicely over the last year.

Alright I'll probably just order a Megan racing dp and evo 3 o2 housing and try to make that work. One guy on here heated the dp up and bent it to fit. Otherwise I'll just try use stock o2 housing.

The EVO 3 O2 housing is a different animal than the 1G/2G pieces. The EVO 3 is larger both inside and at the DP flange, but the trouble is that the angle of the E3 flange is different than that of the others. Best way to correct a DP for the E3 O2 housing, in my opinion, is to cut the two bolt flange off the DP, bolt the flange to the E3 O2 housing, then hold the DP up to the flange at a position that the pipe is clear of the pan and Tcase, then put a tack weld in two places and remove the pipe and reweld the flange to the pipe and youre done. Its easier to me to do it this way than to heat and beat on the DP to make it fit but thats just my opinion.

I just got my Megan Racing downpipe in the mail today, I'll take some pics after work. I should be getting it installed tomorrow, I'll let you know how it goes. I'm keeping the stock o2 housing.

Here's my thread where I was trying to figure out what to order. After a bunch of searching the general concensus was that converting to a 3" o2 housing wasn't going to help much anyway, so I went with the 3" Megan downpipe.

I'm also thinking about getting before and after dyno readings and making a video of it, but I kinda don't want to spend an extra $165 to do it. It might be good info though to show what kind of HP gains (if any) an exhaust upgrade on a stock 1G will do.

If i get a evo 3 o2 housing will the downpipe fit on, but just rub on the transfer case? That's what i read on other threads. I have the stock 1g o2 housing, but getting it off the old downpipe is probably going to suck.
I think if i can get the downpipe on the evo3 housing i can heat up the exhaust red hot and bend it with a pry bar.

-erictande, what o2 housing are you going to use? Let me know how it fits.

If you cant successfully bolt any aftermarket downpipe to an evo3 o2 housing you are doing something completely wrong.

Yes the angle is a LITTLE bit different, but it will work with mild persuasion.

cutting and rewelding the flange is simply unneeded.

FWIW, you CAN bolt a stock 1g downpipe to an evo3 o2 housing... I have done it.

Can you bolt a 3 in downpipe up to a evo 3 o2 housing without having much of a problem?

I was also looking at the punishment racing o2 housing vented to atmosphere, would that work too?

Got my parts in, they're getting installed tomorrow. I'm taking some before and after videos as well.

Here's the Megan Downpipe, I got it for $165 shipped:
