I just recieved my Punishment FMIC kit today. and they included what appears to me to be a knock off of the greddy type s BOV. are the worth a whoot or should i just stick to my 1g BOV.

Thanks:hmm:

I haven't heard anything about them, bad or good.

No news is good news, right??

Actually, I have heard of a few people running those knock-off type S blow off valves without any issues or leaking (at low-ish boost levels... less than 25), but I haven't heard anything specifically about the valves from punishment.

I seem to remember reading that someone said the diaphragm in the knock-off is of better quality than the diaphragm in the real Greddy. This could be totally false, just for some reason I remember reading that here somewhere on the forum

The China knock offs of the greddy suck. There is a company (forget the name) who sells excellent greddy "knock offs." They are in fact a 100% genuine greddy, but they open them up and make the diaphragm even stronger than on a greddy and strip the greddy name from it. I can't for the life of me remember the name of the company doing this, but I'm sure a search could bring it up rather easily

My friend has a knock-off rs, it sounds alright. He hasn't complained about it but he's running low boost.

Kinda thread jack, but I think your thinking of NGR performance. I've heard nothing but good things about them, they're type-S knock offs, supposedly better than the authentic type-s.

Edit: Sweet, they sell a black top version now.

actually when i was researching about the punishment fmic, i did read about the bov somewhere that it holds up pretty good, so i'm sure its not the china bov, maybe just a greddy replica with a better diagram (like this one: YouTube - Eclipse GST Testing an NGR Type-S BOV, Running EVOIII 16G ). If punishment did include a bov made from china, that'll just ruin their name a bit..i don't see why they would do that.

That's probably the valve I was thinking of.

I really doubt they are "genuine greddy other than the diaphragm" though... It really wouldn't make sense for a company to spend a few hundred on a valve from Greddy and then fix it up and sell it for less. I'd be willing to bet that they get their valves from the same Chinese manufacturer that the rest of the eBay valves come from, but then they add their own improved diaphragm.

im running one as i got the same kit, and i have no issues with it.

Edit: Sweet, they sell a black top version now.

I ordered before Thanksgiving and got mine at the end of December. They were low on diaphragms and shit. But I was expecting the purple and they sent me the black top. It's pretty sick. Just can't get it to whistle real long like their videos...it's always just a short whistle.

I have the Pu nishment Racing FMIC kit for my 2g. I could not get the BOV that came with it to stop fluttering. Sounded like absolute shit. I switched back over to the 1g BOV and haven't had a problem. The BOV that comes with the kit is a complete peice of garbage. That is unless you like compressor surge and ricer boy stuff like that.

Thanks for all the replys. I think i will got with the 1g bov. esp since i am just getting the car together and it will be one less thing to add to the equasion. Maybe once its all together i can just throw the knock off on and see what it does.

i run on this bov 4k miles without leak and another issue holds boost perfect i use before gready r type bov this is shit start leaking after 300 miles and no hold 20psi of boost.

Hmm mixed reviews here. I also just got my PR FMIC kit and surprise surprise (because I didn't know it came with one) I also got the knock off bov too(purple). If anyone wants this pm me. But I'm just going to stick with my real greddy bov that I already have that works great.

are you sure you tried adjusting the hex screw and and tightened it down with the nut?

I have both the greddy type s (from an EVO/purple) and the aftermarket greddy type s (blue top) for some reason when i put the greddy in it held boost fine just had this extremely loud ubnoxious screech, almost like my car was going "WEEEEEEEEEEEEEELOL" down the road when i was under boost. i tried adjusting the hex screw and tightning the nut but nothing worked. Like i said it held boost fine but just whistled like ive never heard a real greddy type s do before. but i ended up putting the aftermarket type s on as it doesnt whistle. we thought it could be the diaphram in the real type s but idk how to fix that, as if any1 knows id appreciate the input, id like to use the real one over the fake. thanks in advance

i had a problem with mine fluttering like that, too. i just took it apart and took one of the springs out and now its good. no leaks and sounds like it should.

ya i was thinking of doing that, but i didnt want to F#$@ it up and completely screw myself out of a 160.00 BOV. so i was gonna see if JZtuning in Philadelphia can fix it or sent it actually to Greddy. but i dont have warranty obviously since i bought it used off some guy with an Evo. but which spring did you take out? id only get the smaller of the springs.:p

I wanted to add to this post that I bought another knockoff greddy type S from ebay just to check it out, since it looked a bit different.

The diaphrahm design is very different from all the other knock-off's out there. Most of the knock-off's use a diaphragm which covers the entire diameter of the upper portion of the valve, and the bolts actually go through the diaphragm.

This new one that I got (for a mind blowing $9 plus $9 shipping) has a MUCH better looking diaphragm and the design is more like the actual greddy.

I'll post some pictures up soon. It is on my car right now and running great, no fluttering like the other knock-off's, and no leaks @ 16psi.

i just ordered that fmic kit for my car.. how going to use the bov they send me. wanted to know how i could make it work the way it suppose too and not flutter or get surge.

I picked up a brand new never used punishment bov that somebody didnt want for $20 and I installed it and also could not get it to open even with the spring fully loosened, it would open slightly let out a small queef then close and I would not hear anything but surge...garbadge in my opinion...unless they only open at over 20psi LOL wich would be why mine wouldnt open since I'm only running 14-16 psi LOL back to the type rs for me the punishment bov is now just a shiny shelf ornament in my living room LOL:ohdamn:
