Dose anybody know a good way to remove the bracket that is spot welded to the floor and holds the spare tire in place under the cargo area in a 2G talon?

Ok I have a new problem... The chizil is working but the welds are tearing holes in the floor when I try sperate them!!! Now obviously i dont want that so any more ideas??? And yeah, Whats BFH???

grinding wheel is nice or a cutoff wheel, just watch that floor. im going to be removing mine soon also

my friend took his out last summer, and i want to say he used a small die-grinding bit of the sorts. he said it took a while, but it turned out good. aftwards, he just sanded everything down nicely (where the welds were) and sprayed a little paint over it to help it from corrosion, and keep it looking nice (he actually sprayed the entire hatch-floor area so it matched didn't have little spots all over). turned out great IMO

Ok so the spare tire bracket is now out! So to any one else who wants to do this mod I think the best approch is drilling out the spot welds, I didnt use a spot weld drill bit but it still worked pretty good.... and the up side to doing it this way is there is no cutting or grinding at all and it comes out in one peace... but make sure that the bit you use is bigger then the spot weld dot because the edges around the weld seem to be stuck down as well...
I hope to have pics up soon...:talon: :thumb:

PS: I now have some pretty nice sized rips in the floor now from trying to use a chizil... So DONT USE A SHARP CHIZIL.

I did this , well my father and me . We used a chisel (wisely used a chisel) carefully. It didnt tear anywhere but did leave the tiny spot weld holes. Gutting it out took 20 -30 min . Get a very heavy hammer/minni slegde. Just heavy. start from sides and follow seems with chisel. do not pull on stuff or it will tear. then do a little sanding, apply cualk to hole inside and out. Spray with ruber coatong and i dynamated. Came out great and system sounds awesome. I fibergalsswd the will and used mdf for a lid.
anyhow hope i helped. i figured i'd post becuase i have first hand experience abd i used a chisel as suggested above. Oh, try to use a wide chisel like 2-3 inches , but dull. dont want it sharp. you just really need to get into it for the wlds, it gonna be 20 min of non stop serious manual labor with the mini slegde/heavy hammer oh; my bad i guess you can say a mallot. thats what we used , not a rubber mallot.
goodluck and let us know.
