Did they pressure test the head when they rebuilt it? Hopefully its not cracked.

Yeah they did pressure test it??? :(

I'm stumped.

The only reason I could think of causing my head or block to get cracked was when I changed the timing belt last summer I was off 2 teeth between the cam sprockets. The car was pinging heavily and I did drive it for 10 miles or so before realigning the timing properly.

Since NAPA seems to be the only place here in Canada that sells Cooling System Pressure Testers I will have to wait tilll tomorrow to buy it and go from there.

Do the pressure test and get back to us. If they did check the head like they say they did then its not cracked but you never know. Im sure the blocks ok I would not be worried about that. Its eather the head or head gasket if I had to guess.

I know you probably already have this planned, but do another compression test after you put that head back on to ensure that the shop did what it was suppose to do and didn't make it worse.

On another note does the block look ready to have the head installed?[/QUOTE]

I just cleaned my block surface this weekend and I can see the original circular machining marks. I can also see very few impressions left from the headgasket. How well did you scrape off the old gasket?

Comparing the picture in my head of my block and the picture you posted, it looks as though you should have spend more time on the surface.

I cleaned it up all the way after that pic wet sanding using 400 grit sand paper.

Ok, so I did a cooling pressure test with the engine cold putting the pressure up to 15 psi and it did not drop at all. Released the pressure and started the car. The pressure slowly rose as the car warmed up maxing out at 17psi at operating temperature. There was no more smoking coming from under the exhaust manifold but there was smoking coming out of the exhaust beyond 15 psi. Turned the car off, took the spark plugs out and pressurized the system back to 17 psi. The pressure slowly in about 3 minutes dropped to 14 psi. I looked through the plug holes and pistons 1 and 4 were completely dry. Pistons 2 and 3 were both slightly wet. Cranking the engine over with the crank sensor disconnected did not produce any slash. Also, I could here a slight seeping sound coming out of cylinder 2 every few seconds.

Any suggestions?

what kind of gas was he pumpin? some idiot that had my car(s) had bosch super 99 cents spark plugs and the valves were a similar color to the head on the top

Just as an update I ran Gunk Block Sealer and it's holding up so far. I'll let you guys know how long it'll hold up for.

Just an update... Everything is holding up fine. No smoke at all. Looks like the Block Sealer did the trick.

Although, I never got around to those copper crush washers... I'm kinda getting tired of people always asking me if my car is burning oil... time to find those washers and replace them

Just another update: The oil leak was not from the copper washers. There was a pin hole on one of the corners of the head. I guess the machine shop did it by accident. Put some Cold Weld on it and it's holding up fine.
