Alright my 97 GST is in need of a head, the one on the car now needs some serious work and probably wont be useable again.

I have a 1g head off a Galant VR4 with high miles.

Now would it be better to do a valve job and mill the Galant head, look for another 7 bolt head or what.

I do have a 1g thermostat assembly, is there anything else i would need to put a 1g head on my 2g?

you would also need a 1g intake manifold, maybe a cas and some other things. I would go for it if you ever plan on putting in a 6bolt motor or big hp goals. 2g head flows great but the 1g head has bigger ports

And bigger is not better :notgood: The 2g head is a much better design so if you have the options stick with the 2g head.

Do you know what needs done in order to reuse your 2G head?

If it's not major, I'd rebuild it instead of going to the 1G head. Besides, like TJ said, the 2G head is a better design and it also has more potential if you get a good porting/valve job done.

i got machine work and things like that, i was just curious of the differences...i had to machine my head down .012 to get it flat thats why i really didnt want to reuse the head, but i have no choice and its back on the car already.
