just wondering what would be the best way to go about changing head gasket? can it be done without removeing the engine? or if i have to remove the engine, what would be the easiest wayto do it?

No offense man but if you really asked that question, your should probably do some research befor getting involved in a job of that degree. It is not a very hard job but again not the simplest thing to do on these car. It requires alot of time and patience to do and it HAS to be done right or you will have serious problems. But while your there you SHOULD replace timing belt/components and water pump.

Use the search bar and you should find some good how-to's..

Goodluck

Yeah pulling the engine would be overkill for a task like that. You just need to remove the head unless your deck needs resurfaced for some reason.

Only time I would pull a engine to do a headgasket. Was if I wanted to do some extra stuff. Like, water pump, oil pump, maybe do some engine gaskets. Pretty much tidy up the front end. If it was just to fix a overheating problem on a old junker, I would just leave it in.

Yea don't pull the motor but if your looking to be modding and stuff I would recommend the head gasket and arp studs from extremepsi.com its a very good deal and you won't have to worry about it.

k so i got the head off the laser and 1 of the pistons r fried and one of the exuast valves r chiped.!!!!! wich is no big deal cause i realy dont care about the car, but my talon on the other hand is doing the same thing the laser was doing.and i dont want to tear the head off if the whole motor needs to be pulled. also is there any way to check if piston or if its the gasket? also can my arp head studs be re-used?

You can check to see if there is oil in your coolant. But the best way is to remove the head. My engine would push coolant when I got onto it and overheat. I took it to one garage and they checked to see if oil was in the coolant and the result was negative. I kept having the problem and took it to another garage and they pulled the head. It ended up being a severly cracked headgasket, not too mention and warped cylinder. My suggestion as stated above is to pull the head and check all things so that you are certain and not guessing.

Compression and leak-down tests can help you narrow it down as to what that actual problem is before you pull the head.

What exactly is your car doing for it to be doing the exact same thing as the other one?

Headgasket can be swapped out in car as you've already seen, but if you want to get full on into the engine then pulling the engine can be done in a few hours and overall can be more beneficial since you won't have to maneuver around everything else.

Replace the bad valve and bad piston and you should be ready to have that car running again. Not a hard job.
