ok well im completely new to working on cars in general LOL... i have very little experience...i have helped some friends pull an engine and drop one but now its my cars turn......i have 2 choices.... but id like to ask which would be the quickest...

im going to be replaceing the timing belt tensioner and the timing belt also the balance shaft belt.........

my choices to get the engine out are ...............

unbolting the transmission and the exaust manifold and the motor mounts.....

or

takeing the axels out and unbolting the motor mounts.....

wouldnt that be easier?

..... its kind of hard to unbolt the cover with a bunch of pullys infront of it.... + i have to time the engine...................

dude, when i had my 2.0 Eclipse, i replaced the timing belt, balance shaft belt, crank sprocket and alternator pulley, and the only thing i ever did was unbolt the engine mount, and jack up the engine a bit.

i did it 4 times (DSM luck) and nvr even touched the trans or axles. I'd image that the 1.8 would be even easier. I haven't done it to my own 1.8L yet, but one would tend to think it could be easier w/ one less camshaft.

When I had my 4G37, I'd give anything to have the 4G63 this easy.

It's nothing to do a belt on a 4G37. Takes less than an hour to get pulleys and belts out of the way, zip off both covers, loosen the tensioner pulley, yank the old one off an slap a new one on, then snug up the tensioner pulley to specs, put covers back on and the rest back on = DONE!

if you're gonna be a mechanic, you gotta play the rules - meaning you're gonna have to take stuff off the right way to do the belt the right way....

...and that includes the balance belt for the 4G37 as well.

Do it once, Do it right.

Granted we usually can't leave well enough alone means your always going to want to improve upon something, like motor swaps LOL
