I have a non-ball bearing Mitsubishi SCM61 that recently went bad on me. (burning oil at idle, acceleration, etc...) It ran fine on a bone stock 7 bolt for 5k miles. When I put it on my car with balance shaft removed and 6 bolt motor, it lasted for about 3k miles more and then I started having my problems. I know that with an unported oil filter housing and balance shafts removed, oil pressure can get very high. I was wondering if I should buy the inline filter and restrictor from forced performance or if that would restrict the turbo too much. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I would say yes you need to bring the oil pressure down at the turbo. But I would contact the turbo manufacturer and get their opinion ....then you have a professional opinion that you can hopefully trust. If you have future problems at least you can go back and say they told you to do it.

I do believe that pte does require you to run less oil pressure although it being a standard bearing turbo. Your best bet is to give them a ring and they can tell you exactly what you need to know.

Its mandatory that you run an .080" restrictor with any SCM series turbo if you do not run balance shafts and your oil feed is from the filter housing. That cartridge has a hard time holding in oil over 60psi, which is what its rated at.
