Hey everyone, so latly i noticed im loosing some oil, and it smokes some blue when im at or near WOT. its starting to smoke a little at idle now as well. I belive the turbo on there is an FP green, ill post a pic in a min. But there is some oil from the compressor wheel side, and some oil in the intercooler piping, however there is no shaft play, and the turbo spools and runs well. Im thinking that it may need a restrictor? im not sure of the line size, looks to be a -4AN or -5AN, also i have higher oil pressure due to the balance shaft removal kit. my lancer started to smoke and i installed a restrictor and the problem went away, Any input would be great!

Is this even a FP green anyway? if not, anyone know what turbo? was told it was a FP but i dont see any logos anywhere, looks like after the 49179 there are more numbers but they were ground off. 20G in a FP housing?

Is there a spot in the head that I can connect. 4AN or would I need to drill? Ya at WOT its pretty close to 100 psi even warmed up, now if its pushing oil past the seals does that mean I ruined the turbo, or will it be fine with a restrictor?

This is what I picked up when I bought my FPGreen (the RED filter @ .125"). I will be feeding from the OFH. It is bigger (~2x bigger) than what Justin suggested though. Just a thought

Front passenger's side corner. Remove the 10mm x 1.25 bolt.

I can't answer that- 50/50.

.125" isn't going to restrict very much. I'd say that's more for a turbo like a Garrett or Holset; you'll never drop 100psi down to 50psi or lower with a .125" orifice.

I assume the .030" would be way to restrictive for an situation like this?

I understand the FP thrust centers are different than the MHI thrust centers, but is there a reason why FP would suggest a higher pressure? Aside from, well... being different?:hmm:

That's a ball bearing restrictor. You'd cut the oil volume back to a fatal level with a restrictor that small.

Depends what the thrust system of the turbo is; but I'm willing to bet your turbo has a standard thrust plate, so it wants no more than 50psi.

Buy the ball-bearing FP filter and drill it out to whatever you want.

thanks for the help guys! hopefully the turbo is alright

i bought this one here: eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices

.......that restrictor says .04"

all the help that was given to you stated that around .065 would be appropriate. may I ask why you would go and buy something that you are unsure of if its appropriate for your function?

thats .01" larger than the .03 which is not recommended, and .025" less than what was recommended.

hell I could be wrong, just trying to figure out your train of thought. I am confused on why you would go ahead and buy it with all the info that was given

great idea, I am about to do this, filter and restrictor in one

edit: okay so I found a 1.75mm drill bit, that comes out to .068", Jus do you think thats large enough for a 20g with upgrade thrust plate. I also have drill at 1.8mm, 1.9mm that could out to .07" and .074"

we have a machine shop section in the metal fab shop im in, so i was just going to mill it out to .65'', dont see any harm there, do you?
