Ok, So I got a PT in my shop that I'm putting a used engine in its a 2.4L and I think its a 2005 ish.

My question is this, is there anything I can use off this engine for my 420Aa? I've heard that the lifters and rockers are better?

Also its a 2.4 block can I use that with the srt4 internals and my head?

Any info would be greatly appreciated

This is the first I've heard of the srt4 engine being at all compatible with the 420a. Did you search the forum and google it as well?

Yes they are...

Yes I've searched and googled it, they are not compatable with the 420A but tey do work in the 2.4's just not sure on the year range

Thanx

Yes the 2.4L swap is able to be done for our cars, and in the exact configuration that the OP asked about.

As far as the 05 cruiser block, i don't know if it is compatible or not, I'll be using one out of a stratus when i do my build.

I plan for a stratus block, SRT-4 pistons and rods, as well as the oil pump, and the 420A head.

Only major problems I've seen is that no one that i have seen that has completed the swap has kept there A/C, which is the only problem with the swap for me.

'05 is too new for a 2.4 that is compatable with our ECMs, the crank position system is entirely different and '03 is the cutoff there. Yes the lifters and rockers are "better", I understand they are revised and such are the accepted replacement, but despite the 1 Neon, 3 Eclipses, and 2 Avengers I have owned with the DOHC Engine I have never once had a problem in the valvetrain so I dont see what the big fuss is about. Those are the only useable parts I can think of that will interchange in the 420a.

With stock rev limiter it probably isn't a factor, People who are increasing their rpm range might bennifit from the bleed hole in the pt lifter. Also the alignment tab on the pt rockers are stronger and less prone to breaking which give a little more peace of mind to those dropping thousands into their heads alone. For stock usage it is overkill though.

Thank you that is what I wanted to know.....

But the 05 block can be used if I run MS from my understanding, any info on that route?

And I have used the search quite a lot actually and only found one instance of what years will work and its always better to have at least a couple people say the same year range

Can yoy use the whole motor from a pt cruiser or just the short block?I just found one in a scap yard while pickin parts for my blazer. It was T-boned in the side. The speedo says 74,000 and the motor looks undamaged(2.4 turbo High output). Not sure what year though.

No, the 2005 2.4 block will not work with the 420a cylinder head due to oil drain hole configuration differences. If you want a 2.4 swap, use a 1st gen 2.4 block. If you want to use a 2nd gen/turbo 2.4 shortblock, you will need Megasquirt to handle the crank trigger as well as weld, drill, & mill the drain hole casting in the block to mate with the 420a cylinder head. If you have the resources and tooling to do that cheaply, then go for it. Otherwise just pick up an early 2.4 block for a bolt on affair.
