What is the proper way to adjust the throttle cable? I know I loosen the 2x 10mm bolts on top of the intake and slide it around, but do I wot the pedal, open the throttle all the way and tighten?

Stolen from another post: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/newbie-forum/414671-how-adjust-throttle-cables-cruise-control.html

those two 10mm bolts are on a sliding plate that either tighten or loosen the throttle cable.

1. loosen each one of those bolts. After each one is loosened, you should be able to slide the plate the holds the cable in place back and fourth.
2. slide it back a little where you can feel the slack of the throttle cable get smaller and smaller.
3. tighten them up to i believe its 3.5 lbs.
4 .feel the slack of your gas pedal. it should be a lot tighter.
5. keep doing this to make all the necessary adjustments until you get it just right.

Note: dont tighten the throttle cable to much though or else your throttle plate wont close all the way and you dont wanna be racing in idle LOL.

I had read that in searching, but it didn't sound right since there is potential there for the throttle blade to not be opened completely when the pedal is WOT. I guess the other side of the argument could be that the cable could crack the throttle plate slightly causing a high idle.

Screw it, I'll just mess with it until I'm happy.

You adjust the cable to the point just before it opens the throttle plate. This will ensure even with a slight press of the throttle pedal, the plate will open.

If you are unsure if you are reaching complete WOT and do not have a spare hand, get something heavy (like a brick or small toolbox) and hold the throttle down to its full reach. Tug on the cable from the throttle body towards the drivers side of the car, if you can still move it, you are not reaching WOT.

If you adjusted the cable properly than you do NOT want to adjust it more, this will cause the throttle to be open during idle.

If you are not reaching WOT, but have the cable adjusted correctly than check to see if there is anything obstructing the pedal from reaching the floor, such as carpet or debris.

I just had to do this. Loosen the 2 bolts, I had my wife sit in the car, hold the pedal all the way down, I opened the throttle plate all the way on the TB, then tightened the cable down. hope that helps

You want to adjust it when the throttle is closed, not open. If you adjust it to where the throttle plate is open, you're going to have a nice surprise when you go to start your car...

what surpise would that be? I hope you don't mean the throttle plate being left open, because that would be something i would have checked since stopping the throttle plate from being stuck was the reason i was adjusting in the first place.

I am having a issue with my throttle body not opening all the way when I'm floored. My cable got jammed up from a accidental battery ground...uhhhh opps... So I had to take the cable off and yank on it to un seize it. Now I have it back on and it feels a little rough through the pedal but it does work. Well for the most part.... It seems every which way I make the adjustments I cant get the throttle plate to open all the way. I am going to try the adjustment at WOT

I'm sure the theory behind this method is because the pedal is FLOORED when you adjust it to WOT then once let off the GAS PEDAL the throttle plate should close all the way. I find it funny the two above posters are thinking it would still be at WOT. Good looks dakang on showing me a different method. I'll see what I can do with this one...

I just had to do this. Loosen the 2 bolts, I had my wife sit in the car, hold the pedal all the way down, I opened the throttle plate all the way on the TB, then tightened the cable down. hope that helps

Just buy a new cable for Christ's sake. If the cable took 12 volts from the battery then it's melted / burned and your next post is going to be all about how your engine revved to the moon and now it won't run or some stupid s##t. And get yourself a battery hold down while you are at it.

I had a feeling that was coming. about 4500 into this build so far just in parts. At this point a new $60 cable is killer. So I'll be off to the junk yard for one.
