Hi,
I was coming back from my parents house about 70 miles away from my apartment, when 20 miles into the trip my lower intercooler pipe clamp snapped. (old age I guess.) It was night time so I just decided to buy a red bull, some chips, and baby the car all the way home. (50 miles.) I only got about 7 mpg and black smoke on acceleration (if thats what you want to call it.) The whole drive was highway access road with about 7 stop signs. My question is:Could the engine be damaged because of driving 50 miles with a massive boost leak?

I plan to replace the spark plugs, oil, and buy all new clamps. Should I be worried? :sosad: Thanks in advance.

i dont beleave there would be any damage other than possaby over spinning your turbo and over heating it.. the black smoke was either from running way to rich or smoking your turbo.

Cool thanks,
I was just wondering because I've heard that running rich can kill your engine freakishly if fuel gets into the oil. My "buttercup" t-25 is strong with no shaft play before this incident, but I will check tomorrow for damage. Although I tried not to boost, I was forced to attempt to get boost to to get off the line from a stop because the car made no power otherwise.

ive done the same thing, old coupler just bit the dust babied it home and replaced the coupler, no damage, should be all good

You wouldnt be overspinning your turbo unless you were boosting.
You were running extremely rich so your plugs are probably black, good idea to replace them.
I wouldn't be too worried.

I agree with gstclipse69 unless you were boosting the hell out of the car there should be no problem... and I'd definatly change the plugs as suggested. good luck
