MAJOR boost leak, damage to turbo?

Almost done with my maintenance just need to clean the intercooler install catch can and this little problem. I put on a pressure tester and right ater sending air into it I quickly heard the noise coming from under or behind the throttle.

But what most concerns me is that the leak is so huge there is ZERO pressure. I've been running this car for a while now would this have damaged the car somehow. I practically have a turbo car with no turbo

It will make the car run rich just like if you happens to run bov to atmosphere without circulating. what ever the problem is find it now and use soapy water but if that hole is that big that it will be obvious where that air is coming out of.

Yes you could damage a turbo with major boost leaks. You are making the turbo work waaaaaay harder to make boost. Fix the leak and then retest. Bet you will find a few...

Probably TB shaft seals, but it could be the TB mounting gasket, IM gasket or injector seals. There is a LOT in that area, so use soapy water like he mentioned.

What was your pressure source? Where did you connect it on the car? Were you looking at your boost gauge in the car while testing to verify the pressure you were testing to? Zero pressure seems like too large of a leak to have in that area...Maybe unless you were using a pancake compressor with 3 cfm capability @ 20 psi or something.

Even the T-too small probably puts out 200-250 cfm, which is more than my diesel powered industrial 185 CFM compressor at work. ( un-freaking-believable to me)

Anyway, yes you are pushing your turbo too hard with boost leaks, which is much more of a problem on a turbo that small.

I blew the bottom two corners panels off my FMIC without even knowing it**.
I drove around for a couple more days before this discovery.
But my turbo doesn't boost during daily driving anyway (S366).
I have since sent my turbo in for servicing anyway .
Basically if your turbo isn't smoking you should be OK.
