Since i'll be using the stock H4 bulb which has low and high beams which are both one when the high beams are switched on, Do I need that metal plate inside? I'm pretty sure it's for the low beams, but will it matter for high beams?

Yes, low beam needs a cutoff, or you will blind every oncoming driver.

Cutoff plate is needed. If you want to utilize a real high beam setup you would be needing a bi-xenon housing. All that means is when the highs are activated, the cutoff plate is dropped down so you have a full beam pattern.

Thanks for the replies.

It's not an Eclipse, but I still has the separate lows and highs.

And I have them wired so there are 2 lows and 4 highs. The two lows are from the H4 bulb and the 4 highs are from the 2 inner H1 bulbs and the 2 H4 bulb highs. So I'm not worried about the H4 highs, just needed the info. Thanks again

Back from the grave. Sorry mods.

But when doing a retrofit, you have to convert to hid bulbs?

How about using the stock 9006? the output is not the same? Or do the projectors only accept hid bulbs?

thanks

I don't understand why you would go through the trouble of retrofitting projectors into the stock housings only to keep the stock bulbs.

Almost all projector housings will accept a stock bulb! An example is an r34 and an fto both come with projectors and both come with stock halogen bulbs, why you want to change it and then keep the oem bulbs is not going to help you see better and its pointless money spent!

HID Projectors will only accept HID capsules. D2S is the most common these days. Some newer car use D4S (mercury free) and some old cars are D1S.

Hope that helps.

That may be true in newer model cars but not in the old type! My r33 had the r33 gtr lights that were projector and they had halogen bulbs in as factory fitment! So the newer units might be only for hid bulbs but the older styles house what ever you out in and what is wired for

Notice I said HID Projectors, not halogen projectors.
There are lots of halogen projectors out there, like Skylines, older BMWs, etc.

Is there a freelancer on the board that does these I can pm?

Not that I know of.
I've thought of offer the service but I've got so little free time.

Which kit would you recommend ? I might take a whack at this :D

I pulled up this one, for $410.
Bi-xenon FX-R Stage IV Kit - Complete Retrofit Kits from The Retrofit Source Inc

I used the morimoto mini h1 kit since it was the easiest to install, mounts right into the factory headlights, only had to trim the shroud.

This is the only cutoff pic I have before it met its untimely demise, but I'll be installing the kit in my new dsm when I order some replacement parts since some stuff got broken in the accident.

OEM Projectors would get my vote first, then the replicas (FX-Rs) and lastly the Minis.
Sure the Minis are easy to install but the added performance of OEM or replica projectors is so worth it imo.
