HID Retrofit - What projector size is best?

IMO, skip the halo. I think it makes your custom work look like you bought some ebay knockoff. Also in reference to smoking the lens, I just don't see the point in darkening the light output. But, that's your call.

I actually just did a custom set of painted lights. http://imgur.com/a/0DOrO#0

I didn't sand anything. I did spray with adhesion promoter, primer, and then mulitple coats of spray paint. Get at it!

I like the look of 2G with Halo, my light output will show it's not an eBay headlight. If they can't tell the difference between my projectors and eBay projectors than their opinion wouldn't matter much LOL

I'm not smoking the lens, I am smoking (actually blacking out) the corner amber piece inside of the headlight so the housing is 100% black. The actual lens will be sanded and clear coated. Light output should be maximum (for my $55 bulb/ballast at least).

Nice retro! looks factory on that truck.

To keep within my actual budget ($350 including prep and supplies) I will be skipping adhesion promoter and be sanding and using primer.

I was thinking of using VHT roll bar and chassis satin black paint for the housing. Anyone have experience with it and think it looks good?

I ended up buying the Morimoto kit from TRS because they posted a 15% off discount code on their facebook and I only spent $65 extra than I would of with the cheap HID ballast and bulb with only 1 year warranty. Now I have 5 year warranty with 100% quality parts.

Projectors: Morimoto Mini H1 6.0
Ballasts: Morimoto 3Five DSP
Bulbs: 3Five 5000k
Shrouds: Mini Gatling Gun
Halos: (new) Morimoto xB LED 70mm white
Sealant: OCI Butyl

Total: $276.25

Take pics as you go! Also, to get the light apart, use a heat gun and start to remove the lens from the turn signal side first. I'm really not a fan of the oven technique .
I'm going to attempt to do a how-to. I know a couple great ones already exist, but none full blackout the headlights. Hopefully everything goes great and I can get enough pics for a how to. I actually see the oven technique is pretty successful if done properly. I am going to try it out and see if I don't mess up.

I got the kit in today, tomorrow I will be picking up paint and supplies. I just need to get my hands on halogen high-beam projectors and maybe another set of OEM headlights so I can take my time on the retrofit.

I ruined a side marker trying to use a heat gun. Oven was much simpler. Use a sheet tray and a damp towel as the base. Remember you can always put it back in the oven for more heat, it is much harder to undo melting. Try on a junk pair if you can first, its not that hard at all.

Thanks for the advice. I will do that damp towel trick, I think I have seen it used once.

I am checking everything to make sure it's all perfect, about to setup the ballast to make sure it works. I'm writing up my progress in word and will post whenever it's finished. Wish me luck! LOL
