Hey guys, i just want some thoughts if this would be a good idea. i drive a civic coupe vaule packages right now. yes i know the car is pretty lame but im a 16 year old first time driver but anyways back to the point. i want to have a 97-99 eclipse project car. i want to spend like 1500 total on the car but im not really sure what i should do. would it be smart to buy a eclipse gst or gsx and rebuild parts off that or buy an rs or gs and put a new engine in there and all that stuff. i've seen engines on ebay going for like 1000 for a 4g63. tell me what you guys would do if u were in my spot. please tell me all oyu have to say becuase i need a faster car but money for a faster new car can't happen right now.

Buy a project 1gb 6bolt 4 bolt combo, for 1500 you wont get in the 2gb range, buy a clean 1g with a blown engine, and rebuild it or swap another one in.
When all is said and done, you may be 2500-3000 into it, depending on what you spend on the car... you may get really lucky.
When all is said and done, you should have a nice 1g with decent power, and you will be glad you did it.

i couldn't get a first gen dsm not a fan of those at all. 2gen is the best personally. my bro's had a gs and that was 10 years ago and i fell in love with the looks of that car ever since. my bro now has an evo and i want something with turbo becuase theres nothing like the sound of the turbo spoolin up. so yea tell me if this is possible to happen with a 2gen eclipse.

keep saving. Althou if you look hard enough in classifieds you might find a 95 parts car or car needing a tranny for 1000-2000 dollars.

In my local papers i saw a 95 GSX for 1000 with no tranny. Not sure condition on the car, but spend 700 bucks on a new tranny, and you could have a running 2g.

Getting a 97-99 for 1500 is purely out of the question.

really trannys go for that cheap. the 95-96 are the same thing as the 97-99 but the front looks different is that all thats different or is there more?

Trannys aren't all that too expensive if you find a parts car, or someone selling one for a decent price. [ keep in mind, the trannys would be used thou. est price on a used would be 700-1000 depending seller and condition. Brand New and/or a reputable rebuilt tranny I think around 1200-1500ish. ]

The 97-98 Talons are abit more 'agressive' looking with the front bumper as you mentioned, but they also have an 'aggressive' line going up the door/side flowing up to the talons high wing.

The 97-98 talons also have the high wing compared to the low 95-96 wing.

Heres some quick comparo shots.

Has the line going further and higher to flow with the spoiler lines. Overall a slightly more agressive look than the 95-96's

I'm not sure of visual differences of the eclipses.

thanks for the info man the pictures really helped alot. so u guys thing it would be possible to get like a 95 gst or gsx with something missing and then just get some part fixed and have it running in prettty good shape for around like 3-4 grand total?

3-4 grand is abit more realistic for a 95-96. I got my 95 Tsi AWD for 2500. It ran but had some problems [ and still does]. So far i've bought new brakes, new tires, and a new fuel pump assembly. Now I need to fix the wheel bearing in rear passenger side, and then get some real minor dings out. Overall the body was in decent condition, and the paint is not all that bad either. Alot of rock chips in the front bumper which somewhat sucks thou.

+170 for brake parts [ rotors, pads ]
+350 for Fuzion HRi's
+30 for Fuel pump assembly [ i got lucky and found a guy parting his car cheap. normally look to spend about 100 bucks if you can even find one used. They are a bi*** to find, and new they cost 495 from a dealer. ]

3020 spent so far, wheel bearing work will probably be $200-350 [rough est] with labor. Then about $212 more to register it in NY [ when i register, i must pay the sales tax on the 2500 ]. Can't forget the neccesary oil change, and new spark plugs + wires, so tack on another 100 bucks.

After that, maybe I will be all set [ knock on wood ]
