This is actually my sister's vehicle - a '97 GST Spyder. I don't know much about her car which is why I came here for help. I'm assuming this is the stock alarm system. Her key fob is black with 2 gray buttons (lock & unlock) and 1 orange button (panic), if that helps determine whether or not it's the factory system. I've been cleaning up the car the past few days for my sister because she is getting ready to sell it. Today I went out to the garage to get something out of the trunk. I used the key in the trunk lock and opened it from there. After a few seconds the alarm starts to go off. I shut the trunk and started pressing buttons on the remote to shut it off. Nothing worked. I jumped in the car and stuck the key in the ignition... that didn't work. I was able to actually start the car with the horn honking and lights flashing. After a few minutes the alarm went off by itself.

At this point I thought I was in the clear. A little later I went out to the car to drive somewhere. I made sure to hit unlock on the remote (thinking this was what I should have done before I opened the trunk. It unlocked just fine and I opened the door. The alarm starts going off again. Again I press all the buttons on the remote (several times)... nothing works. I finally just started it up and drove off. People were thinking I was a lunatic driving around with the lights flashing, honking the horn.... and even more so when I would just smile and wave at them. After a few minutes of driving it turns itself off. When I got to where I was going I pull the key out of the ignition and open the door... again the alarm starts blaring. I try the buttons a few times and finally just ignore it and walk away.

Anyone know what's going on here? How do you disarm the alarm while it's in the middle of going off? Or at any time, for that matter? I may just end up pulling the battery wire to reset everything, but don't really want to do that because of the radio code and all. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

you might want to try unlocking it from the passenger side and see if that helps...with my car(97gst), before i put a different alarm it in, if you locked it from the inside by pressing the button on the door it'd arm itself...and if you unlocked it any other way EXCEPT the drivers door, the alarm would go nuts...you'd have to shut the passenger door/trunk run around to the drivers door, lock it, then unlock it again...sounds like a lot, but it did the trick...my bud has a 99gs and he has to unlock his from the passenger side to disable the alarm....so try either of those methods and see if it works...if it still goes nuts, you might have a sensor problem

I believe locking and/or unlocking the door with the key itself turns the alarm off. It does on my car, at least.

What he said.

Its right in the user manual in your glove box...

Check the hood, door and trunk lid switches.

If you need to kill the alarm, pull the relay from the box above the dead pedal. This won't stop the alarm, but will keep it from arming next time.

All I have to do on mine is put the key in the door and unlock it. I cant get it to go off if i start it eithere i went through the same thing. Someone at autozone told me how to turn it off. :dsm:
