problem shifting to 2nd fourth and reverse..

so long story short i needed valve guids valve seals and valve springs, so i removed the head on my car got parts took the head to the shop got it back and put it back together ran good didnt mess with shifting linkage or trans at all. so i get it started to do a break in and just drivin out of my parking spot and after driving it for about ten min i pull out of the gas station and get ready to shift to second and bam wont go into second so i went to third went to shift to fourth and wouldn go into fourth gear either so im thnking what the hell so i pull into a neighbor hood and pull over to check it out nothng looks in normal so i pulled the center console to see if the linkage was catchng anything in their but nothing every thing was all good. I than went and checked the linkage in the engine bay and all was good their too. so i get home and pull my linkage cable off and see if it may be the linkage cables, well when i pulled them off the little pins on the tranny i could shift the shiftknob/shifter and the linkage obviously wasnt getting caught on anything. i than go to shift the transmission by hand an whatta you know i cant go into 2nd 4rth or reverse onle 1st 3rd and 5th. any ideas what too look for what to try? im gettin ready to pull trans and pull it apart. thanks in advance.

Well that has happened to me. Could be a few things, a shifter cable could be stretched, or CHECK YOUR BELLHOUSING BOLTS! What holds the tranny to the engine. More likely is the SHIFTER BASE BUSHINGS, most likely the front ones. Lots of people do without them and just bolt the shifter base directly to the car (quick fix til new bushings come in). But there are many solid alluminum shifter base bushings you can get online that wont mess up your shifter throw and such (i would recommend). check extremepsi.com and forcedperformance.com maybe jnztuning etc.... Also while your at it, check your clutch pedal, if it hangs ANY LOWER than your brake pedal at rested position, you NEED new pedal shaft bushings... Sheptrans.com makes a sweet set of brass bushings for it for 35$, or i recommend sending it in to them for a full rebuild for 100$... Ive had 3 sets rebuilt by them, they do perfection work! If none of these work, maybe you have an ACT pressure plate and its coming apart... Happy DSMing!

alrighty, i replaced the clutch about 20,000 miles ago with a stock one, my clutch pedal is above the brake pedal, as to the bell housng bolts i am missing two bell housing bolts the two top ones next to the starter( so i have the two starter bolts coming towards the front of the engine bay are the two bolts missing ill check down towards the bottom to see f any are missing. well see i know its not shift linkage( cause of i pulled the linkage off the trans and tried to shift it by the cast iron pice that the linkage connects to(with the linkage off.

mine does that sometimes...if u have an aftermarket intake, make sure its strapped towrads the front of the car, or else it wont allow you to go into the lower gears

intake manifold? or the intake coming off the compressor housing? and what do you do to fix it?

mines doing the same thing kind of. but if i literally pull it all the way back i can fine 2nd,3rd and reverse.

any solutions??
