Clutch/Shifter Problem (2nd, 4th, and Reverse Gears)

Hey guys,

I have a clutch or shifting problem. I can shift into first no problem, but then when I try to shift into second, it doesn't go into that gear. I try to put it into that gear but it just stays in neutral. This goes the same for my 4th and reverse gears. There seems to be a common problem with all of them being at the bottom of the gears. Someone please help me figure out this problem. If it helps I have a 96 eclipse 5-speed manual. Thanks.

First, try adjusting the clutch pedal and see if that helps anything. Also, check the linkage to make sure nothing is wrong with it on the transmission side as well as the shifter side. How old is the clutch/transmission? Could be syncro's

The clutch is almost brand new. A couple of months old. That's why I'm so surprised to see something like this happen. Thanks for your advice though I will try it as soon as I get time.

Check the shift cables. It is possible that they have detached from the shifter itself or the transmission. The cables could have snapped too. To check this have a friend shift the car through the gears. Watch the cables at the tranny and see if they both move the selector or if one binds up. If a cable is detached at the shifter, one of the cables won't move at all.

Your shifter cables seem the issue. Check their adjustment is tight, I believe their is info on vfaq. And auto RST got some good ideas too.
