So after doing some searching, I couldn't really find what I was looking for, so here goes. I've recently developed a very small, pinhole size, leak in one of my rubber power steering hoses. I obviously need to replace it, but I'm not sure where the line goes exactly. I can follow the hose back behind the motor to the passenger side of the car, but then it disappears and I can't see it. Does anybody have a diagram of the power steering system and where the lines run? I need to know exactly which line needs to be purchased and replaced. And also whether or not it's a high pressure line or not. As a possible alternative, is there a repair for this or does the whole line need to be replaced?

:talon:

If it's the pressure side it will be pressurized and will squirt allot when you turn the steering wheel. THE RETURN WILL JUST DRIP. That should help with what line is leaking...Dave.

That is the high pressure hose and it goes into the power steering rack about the middle of the car right where the steering shaft goes. 1G DSM PS High Pressure Line They should help you out that line is expensive to. I decide just to pull the whole power steering. Good luck

Holy crap that is an expensive line. I would do some definite price shopping if that is the line that is giving you trouble.

You may be able to have the rebuilt at a hydraulic shop. My father had this done a car for $25. The line was much shorter and the connectors were reusable.

well they do sell stop leak for power steering, but it most likely goes straight down to your steering rack but youll have a better veiw of it if your under the car

hard to read as in too small? or hard to decipher where everything is going? If you click on the picture again after the link its gets alot bigger. If thats is what you meant. Also sometimes if you click on it it takes you to their hosting site. Just hit your back button and youll have the big blown up picture. Once you tell me what ya mean Ill see what I can find.

It's just kind of hard to tell where everything is going. I can see the pic just fine, it's just hard to make out the routing.........I don't know, maybe i'll study it a little more and see if I can figure it out.

Ok, so after further study of this awesome diagram, I've figured out that the hose that is leaking on my car is the #6 rubber hose. Can anybody get me a part number for this hose? And possibly some price estimates? Thanks guys.

i dont know if im allowed to say this but i probly have one that I could sell you.. But it might be the same line that I need too LOL. ill let you know if ## interested.

Wow, that diagram is much different and more confusing than the first one. I'm with you. I can't find #6 on there. hmmmm. Maybe I'll take the first diagram into the dealer and ask them for a part number.

I know im resurrecting a very old post but im having a leak and am wondering what would happen if i eliminated the loop at the bottom

I have a '90 Talon Tsi Awd as well and i have the same problem. I bought a new line but i think it is too short. The current line is routed over the engine mounts though. My main problem now is that i disconnected the battery when i went to work on it because of my sensitive alarm and now when i reconnect the battery i have no power at all. Im guessing that the alternator got fried by power steering fluid leaking all over it. If there are any suggestions to my power problem or installing the new pressure line i can take all the help i can get because i am new to dsms.
Thx
